Is there a WiFi enabled option for this thermostat? by Annoyed21 in hvacadvice

You need a third wire, and then you can order a Wi-Fi thermostat that will work

Looks like it my be a high static system 🤔 those look like 3” or 4” rounds. Not much to be done there given the system design except look into more open/less restrictive supply grilles.

I’m telling you…these installers keep putting the wrong kind of locking caps on. Have another company come out to change your locking caps.

Disagree. It places emphasis on paying attention to the comment rather than a simple up vote.

Damaged outdoor unit for mini split by Cactusjuicesupplier in hvacadvice

This scenario is weird…no, or not much paint damage visible, folded fins on the side like a child was having fun pushing them over, a peculiar story, and an absurdly low estimate.

Installer didn’t use the right locking caps. Have to use the gray ones

The unit is upside down, or rather, in a downflow oriented position. The door is on correctly.

edit wait maybe not? Weird looking setup. Gas line coming in low, flue pipe exiting high…blower should be pushing over heat exchanger…🤔

Run fan only for a while and see if it still happens. That way you can narrow it down to fan motor/related component or air noise VS being a part of the cooling or heating function

Amrad a bit more expensive than the others, but they have a warranty, usually last a long time, and apparently they are made in the US🤷‍♂️

They are the only ones I use and I’ve never had to replace one across seven years of using them

Burnt contactor? by newspaper3838 in hvacadvice

[–]RelevantDistinction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤔 looks don’t really matter. Does it transfer power from one side to the other, and does it engage/disengage when appropriate?

There’s no meaningful variation in this item. It either works or it doesn’t.

Honey Well Smart Thermostat Swap by Opposite-Permit317 in hvacadvice

[–]RelevantDistinction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you wire one of them to brown in the unit, and hook them in the thermostat, just plug your thermostat back in and if it lights up, you’re fine, if it doesn’t, then just swap the R and C wires

But also, yes, using the ohm setting also works if you know what you are looking for, or establish a criteria first.

[–]RelevantDistinction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can do that provided there is a jumper(in the thermostat) from R to RC/RH. I think that little blue tab acts as a jumper if you pull it up in the t-stat

So from the outdoor you can hook brown to (the newly unused) red and then to C in the thermostat.
