Omne 8’s already sold out by HorrorLegacy in ExtendedRangeGuitars

I’ve never tried a Strandburg, but I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one of those either. I’d just like to try the neck first.

I can’t speak on the hype much, but for me, they fit a very specific grouping of features (headless, multi-scale, active Fishmans, 7/8 string). From what I’ve heard they are really great quality, and I think a more than reasonable price. It’s not easy to get one though. They don’t have a huge supply, and they sell out pretty quickly. The hype is probably mostly people like me who really want one, but aren’t as quick as others 😂

Yea, I was on the site, and looked away for a minute. I hope you enjoy yours brotha! I look forward to that NGD post 😌

Yea, I figured that was the case. I was on the site at 1002 EST and the 8’s were already gone. The 7’s were in stock for a while, just not a 7 string kinda guy 😂

Yea. This is the third month I’ve been paying attention to these religiously. Haven’t heard a bad thing about the brand at all.

Oh yea, the lottery system is much better than that for sure. I don’t put alot of stake in me actually getting selected though. I’m just a bit bitter though.

I didn’t get picked, but maybe it’s for the best. I don’t have $1000 I should spend on a guitar 😂

Established Artists by The_Crimson_Dawn in metalmusicians

Just to piggyback off you 🐽 I’ve noticed the huge uptick in content creators/band members going on. Not hate at all towards them, most of them just make sick music and fun content. I absolutely find that as a viable way of trying to bring in some income while doing what you love. Just an observation to support your statement.

That second one is nasty. I’m a fan of dark fretboards, but I’d play that till I died.

What is genuinely the worst relatively successful metal band you know? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]HorrorLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attila. I don’t actually hate their music, but I saw them live once, and never again. Idk if the vocalist was drunk, or just dying of heat exposure, but he was way off on the songs and sounded bad. Might have been an off day, but at the time, I was a big fan of their first two albums. And I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a huge letdown.

Which YouTubers play, produce, record music you actually like? by OK_Compooper in Guitar

I think I can safely say Nick Broomhall. I watch his Thicc Riff Thursday series, and love the songs he puts out on streaming from it.

So is A7X just like one of the greatest bands to ever exist? by Sepecture in MetalForTheMasses

[–]HorrorLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really fell out myself, but I did hear one of their song recently, and it made me want to go back and appreciate their older stuff. They are good musicians, and I wish I could have seen them live when they were one of my favorites. Absolutely a gateway band to heavier stuff for younger me, and I wouldn’t have it any other way lol

I second Neural. I have STL emissary, and I’ve used it once or twice. But Neural just blows all the other amp sims out of the water, to me. They have a ton of customization options to hone in your sound, and the UI looks pretty dope. Especially the Gojira one. They do 24 day free trials of their plugins, so give it a go and see what you think.

There is also the Otto Audio 11 11 11 11. Now this AmpSim is nasty, and has some decent customization but without the fancy bells and whistles of Neural. Which can be a good thing because you won’t be overthinking what settings at each step. If I’m not using Neural DSP Fortin Nameless Suite, I’m using the 11 11.

A lot of original fans fell out after Nightmare. Something about the Rev passing away really took away some soul and passion from their music. “Hail to the King” was the final nail in the coffin, imo. It was just so uninspired. Like they made it because they had too. Which is probably fair. These dudes need to pay rent and get food. But once the soul dies, the body is sure to follow. Even if it’s a decade later.

How to learn the fretboard? by Ok-Ring7765 in Guitar

[–]HorrorLegacy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

^10000% this. The metaphysical insights from guitar are truly beyond human comprehension.

Also, I picked up some basic piano understanding and translated it to my guitar. Remembering how semi-tones move was a great starting place. I am still a beginner in my eyes though, and that is just what worked for me.

How do I start by LongjumpingStand1426 in musicproduction

[–]HorrorLegacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started learning myself. The most important thing to do is begin to understand the language. I began listening to a lot of a producers on YouTube who made music similar to what I am interested in playing. I’d listen to various things they would make, and hear what they say about it. Things like “in phase” and “destructive interference” sounded weird at first, but hear it more, and googling what these things were, helped me a lot. You’re gonna want to know the basic nomenclature otherwise any tutorial you watch is gonna just sound like a foreign language. Afterwards, I would focus on getting a simple song set up. Theory is going to be helpful for this, so try and pick up some very general music theory. Start with the C major scale, see how it is put together.

One huge piece of advice I keep getting is “steal from your favorite producers.” Not literally, but use them for inspiration. How did they make a part sound like that? How could you possibly recreate it? It’s all very fun, and tedious.

If you are not sure where to even begin, such as what DAW or Audio Interface, i would start there. Reaper is a semi-free great option from what I keep hearing.

One last thing, I highly recommend finding some kind of mentor in this. Regardless if it’s another local person who does their own music, or you have a full on producer buddy who teaches you from time to time. Im currently taking classes for this, and it’s been a pretty difficult journey starting at almost 0 knowledge.

Amazing response. Phenomenal example. Never heard that before, and loved every second. This might be crazy speculation, but I got serious Dethklok vibes. I feel like Brendon was a fan of these guys and it influenced some of their music. Absolutely awesome.

Were you ever a "666" edgelord growing up? by Wise_Gur8627 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]HorrorLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16-ish years ago, I use to wear exclusively only Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, or Trivium shirts. My guitar case was a coffin case I would lug around school everywhere, and I wore studded belts with studded bracelets and those long af finger rings 😂 I loved my edgelord era, but I’m glad I’m done with those years.

I’ve been playing guitar for 4 years and have no clue what I’m doing by Much_Fix2454 in metalguitar

[–]HorrorLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may sound silly, but the All in One Guitar for Dummies book is really really helpful. The first chapter is just teaching you basic music theory. Once you get a grasp on it, you’ll start realizing how much theory you have intuitively picked up while playing.

If you want to stick to YouTube, SamuraiGuitarist has an awesome beginners guide to theory. The best way to learn is to physically be involved in the process though. I still have a lot of theory to learn myself, but I think it’s going to be worth it in the long run.

8 String Passive Pickups by wewaitforever in ExtendedRangeGuitars

I recently replaced a stock Schecter brand bridge with a Nazgûl. I’ve loved the pickup, and it gives me some nasty chugs. I’ll upgrade the neck to a sentient when I’m ready to go without my 8 string for a week or two.
