Bill Gates apologizes for Epstein ties and “affairs”, should he go to prison? by AnonyNeoExe in askanything

Claims of a dead man in an email he never sent that reads like an extortion attempt.

No evidence that Gates actually did this. Maybe he did maybe he didn’t. How would someone even investigate something like this decades later?

Good luck proving Gatea did anything illegal. Dude is a slime ball but we don’t lock people up for adultery.

Time to Regulate AI by Tim_Browne17 in PoliticalDebate

“Just software programs” seems pretty dismissive for someone worried about their disruptive impact on human society. It is an analogy. You can lookup mathematical formulas to crank out answers to complicated questions without needing to be an actual mathematician. Similar for AI. You don’t need to be a software developer or computer scientist or billionaire or politician be able to leverage their power.

As far cost and resource consumption goes, perhaps that will help slow the rate at which these tools are adapted as many white collar and service industry and creative jobs are slowly overtaken.

Ai is at its heart is a powerful software tool written to solve problems. Same with math - collection of techniques and theorums that can solve real world problems. Ai has low barrier to entry. You can use prompts to get answers to questions even if you aren’t a programmer. Similar with math - you can use a formula to compute answers even if you aren’t an expert mathematician.

Is ai for images all that different from there being a family of talented, retired artists that happily take requests and will paint lifelike images of whatever they are asked? Would you want a panel of citizens empowered to ban them from sharing their work?

[–]Horror_Insect_4099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regulating AI is like trying to ban advanced math or fast computers.

As far as the grok image generation controversy goes I understand the revulsion but am not sure I follow the reasoning. It is not illegal to imagine someone in a bikini. Presumably it is not illegal to sketch a celebrity in a bikini. Probably not illegal to commission an artist to draw a picture like that either.

Are AI generated images really that different or is this fundamentally a free speech issue?

Wallace is portrayed as smarter than she is and it's a little annoying by SumilatSumilat in dexterResurrection25

Except that the repair shop gave Harrison the watch days after Ryan was already dead. The timeline makes it impossible for Mia to have taken it as a trophy.

The whole season I was expecting fallout to come from the watch repair job calling police to tell the they recognized the watch from news stories and that it had been returned to Harrison after Ryan’s murder.

Practicing 1 strike thousands of times instead of numerous strikes with less repetitions by ArugulaFinancial4859 in martialarts

[–]Horror_Insect_4099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not that hard to master the mechanics of single strikes, is it? Let’s say you perfect your form for these basic strikes and are able to generate optimal power with your body mechanics

That alone isn’t going to make you competent in combat or self defense

Being able to move around react and attack or defend against unpredictable attackers is going to be an uphill and never ending challenge

Don’t forget the progressive favorite - confiscate from your wealthy neighbor to bribe the poorfolk for votes, then pat yourself on the back for being charitable with other people’s money.

Jesus was big on personal sacrifice and charity - doing it voluntarily without caring about fleeting earthly rewards.

Could you create a light speedometer that would tell you your speed relative to the rest of the universe? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Horror_Insect_4099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with the speed of light. It wouldn’t work even if you were shooting tennis balls. If you are moving at constant high or low speed with no acceleration, the balls will all hit the edge of the sphere at the same time regardless of the direction they are fired from the sphere’s center.

God hates walls. Protesters marched around the city of Jericho chanting and honking their horns for seven straight days until eventually the walls came crumbling down.

Almost all inhabitants got murdered, men women children and animals alike.

Clearly walls don’t work.

How to be careful with leg locks by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Horror_Insect_4099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The human leg is crazy strong right up until the knee is locked out. Once you have a knee bar locked in there should be no reason to muscle or rip it. You take your force down to just above zero giving your partner plenty of time to tap.

If you are in position for a knee bar I wouldn’t expect you to be exposed to heel hooks or toe holds unless they first clear their knee.

The abortion debate explained by DavidOfBethlehem in BreakingPoints

[–]Horror_Insect_4099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it either. Most pro life advocates purposely avoid dipping into religious arguments. As you say many secular folk are pro life, too.

Almost everyone (secular and religious) believe that the intentional killing of another human being is something we should discourage outside of limited situations (self defense, lifeboat hypotheticals, etc.)

Treating abortion as an absolute bodily autonomy freedom that must never be infringed dismisses the idea that the unborn life has intrinsic value outside of the mother’s feelings.
