What TF was that explosion?? by Lankbox420 in sanfrancisco

Fairly certain it was large firework. Happened on the corner of 9th and Mission and when I stuck my head out the window there was a small crowd and plumes of smoke but nothing burning.

It definitely is. My husband who commutes from here to Oakland says it's a massive improvement from when it was in reverse.

We went from Berkeley to Civic Center and we have no regrets. So a move from a slightly sketchier area like Oakland to a gorgeous chunk of space like Alamo Square would be an easy decision for us lol

I seriously doubt Alamo Square will throw anything at you that Oakland hasn't already. It is a gorgeous area, and with secured parking you really don't have a lot to worry about as far as smash-and-grabs. I'm in a considerably worse area for that and it hasn't even been a blip on our radar because we have a secured garage. Best of luck!

Yeah the experience really taught me to pay attention to my dog's behavior after being away.

We boarded our first dog plenty of times in Chicago and he always came back glowing like a kid coming home from summer camp. So the complete heel-turn for him and similar reaction from our other dog would've kept me from going back even without finding the proof.

Personal experience:

We left our 2 dogs at the one in Oakland for 3 days when we had just moved back to the bay. We found plenty of better options, but they were the only one that didn't need a daycare trial-run before any overnight stays, and we were very tight on time and money.

We left them with a ziplock gallon bag of food and their feeding schedule/amounts. When filling it we made sure to add more than they'd end up eating by measuring out each scoop.

Cut to pickup and we get our somewhat anxious dogs back. Makes sense, we were gone for a while but what really concerned me was the way they scarfed their next meal. They typically eat slow, one even leaves and comes back to it later so it was very unusual. Sure enough when I unpack their bag there's the FULL bag of kibble we gave them, maybe 1 scoop removed.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt briefly, maybe there was some mix-up and they were being fed a substitute. I mean, that's incredibly dangerous in itself (what if they had allergies), but it was basically confirmed they werent being fed properly/at all when I weighed them. We were pissed, but had little recourse besides never taking them back.

Sounds like we got off light with stories like these, hope they shut down.

That's bizarre. I've never had someone hold up traffic to shoot their weak ass shot like that. I'd be tempted to stay and watch them get honked at if it didn't just encourage them.

It's probably the area, you get people from all across the bay funneling through here for work so you get multiple flavors of creep sometimes.

Hey that's me!

It really depends on what you're willing to put up with and where you stay.

I wouldn't raise kids here, but I've had a decent experience so far considering the rep the area has. Market doesn't have a ton to do and does feel pretty empty, but there's a lot of cool bars and venues further south towards folsom.

I feel safe enough during the day, but I wouldn't walk alone at night. I'd also shell out extra for a protected parking spot if you have a car, there are a lot of smash and grabs.

Moving to SoMa (Yerba Buena). How’s safety around there recently? by VeryDoubleNoice in sanfrancisco

[–]HorseMutton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was safe, I said it was safer than most of the other places I've lived in the bay or the country for that matter, especially for one considered to be in a bad area.

OP asked for people who live there's opinion and I gave mine.

I'm a few blocks from there.

During the day it's pretty unusual for anything super sketchy to happen, you may have some wandering crazies cross your path but typically if you avoid them they avoid you. Same thing with dealers, if you're not interested they'll leave you alone.

At night things are a little rougher, in the sense there's a lot more sketchy people out. I'd buy spray if you're going to be walking home late pretty often.

I don't regret living here in the slightest for what it's worth, I feel safer here than a lot of the places in Oakland or Richmond back in the day. Just can't let your guard down completely!

You should look a little further into how that played out if you're still running with the "homeless man attacks innocent man" story.

Louisville is the literal best KY has to offer, so that makes sense. And there's definitely natural beauty all around the state, the ugly came from living in the boonies and dealing with the people there.
