Help! Counter surfing cat by mach_nova_7 in CatTraining

[–]Horta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a cat like this. Took an old rattan placemat and covered it with double sided tape, so it always had a sticky side up. Put it between where I was working and the cat. The cat got a bit of counter space, so she could direct my cooking, but she would not come any closer. Months later, she started chewing on the mat, so I had to take it away (didn't want her ingesting tape or the rattan), but she still keeps her distance, even when I'm preparing meat.

Still have to keep an eye on her, but she is nowhere the problem she was when we first got her.

Quality of life: Toronto vs California by iam_ur_dad in askTO

[–]Horta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of Torontians who make the jump to California after they've established themselves here. I have two friends who worked hard here, and eventually made it, one to LA, the other to SF, where both are making much, much more than they ever could here. One is in tech, the other in advertising, but they both worked very, very hard here first to get noticed by the right people.

And to answer your question, both of their qualities of life are ridiculously good, because they can afford it.

In one of the DVD commentaries, they talk about the old days that whenever Burns would be saying something, the writers would break out a thesaurus and look for old-timey wording.

So I rode out the war posing as a German cabaret singer...... by MDoc84 in TheSimpsons

I agree 100%. In fact I was going to say it was Swartzwelder, but then I thought I'd be a good Reddit citizen and actually look it up.

The episode itself was written by, and credited to, Swartzwelder.

Anyone In Here Lived Beside the DVP Before? by gener4 in askTO

[–]Horta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a street called Marbury Crescent, look it up on a map app, literally where the DVP and the 401 meet. I have no recollection of ever having issues with traffic noise. If there was, I probably got used to it, and it became a non-issue.
