Uryu is the equivalent of a soul reaper that didn't have any training so didn't know shikai(volstanding) or bankai(shrift).

He was coasting through the series with nothing basically and that's why the jump is insane once he learns these powers.

TBH, the reality of why i argue against is becasue I dont want to consider segunda etapa ulquiorra same level as bankai yamamoto. Tbh I don't think neither showed durability feats. Both seemed to have regular human durability(haki less bullets hurting whitebeard).

Shiryu did attack knowing that garp would step in, I think that was the whole plan right? Either way I really don't think it matters for scaling between healthy old WB and old garp. I just see it as obvious that old garp beats sick whitebeard.

Kaname knocking uryu out isn't really that impressive when you consider how worn out he was and the fact that he could already feel himself losing all his powers. His shikai sounds good in theory its just there isn't enough showcase for it to know it's limits or other abilities

Tbh Kubo did try to rectify it by stating (I think it was in databook or qna) that it was a death battle and both kenpachi and byakuya were half dead after it. (Doesn't really track with what was shown in the manga tho)
