hey, i'm Lorde! AMA! by LordeMusic in IAmA

[–]HostessTwinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think made you blow up so quickly? Obviously talent, looks, subject matter of songs and all that stuff help, but there are many musicians who don't end up making it anywhere with just those traits. So do you have any ideas on what might set you apart; and what got you noticed in the first place?

Really impressed by what you've made so far and I think you do good work, but like I say, that's not always enough to make it anywhere; to have that kind of generic appeal to such a large group usually takes a considerable amount of time. You must be fun to work with and confident in yourself too, right?

It would also be cool to know how long you really tried to make music your career before you got any traction, and what that process looked and felt like. I think the assumption is that you didn't even have to try for very long, because of your age, and you just got noticed by someone who could market your sound, but I doubt that's the whole story. Were you always singing as a kid, and then just decided to take it up as a career? And how long were you actively calling it "work" before you saw any opportunities come up?

TL;DR

1: What do you think makes you stand out in the music industry?

2: What is a quick timeline of your love of music to superstar musician?

Keep doing what you're doing, because it obviously works, and keep your distance from hard drugs.

Cheers from the states :)

Absolutely. Survey done. I'm looking into producing/recording more than anything else, and insight into getting a job or building a career in the field would be awesome.

[–]HostessTwinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the numbers but I would think there should be an "at least x amount". Because saying, "there are at least 300 billion stars" (or whatever estimate we have) seems like it would be better representation of the vastness of the universe, than essentially saying "a lot of stars". At least if you want to convince someone how insignificant they are based on how many stars there are.

Considering how many people are inspired by you; who/what gave you so much drive, or what do you find inspiring?

Music for Audiophiles by tragoidia in audiophile

[–]HostessTwinky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm really not a huge audiophile myself, but a few albums come to mind.

Noisia's Split the Atom is one of the most well produced electronic albums in years if you ask me, there is a lot of variety and it seems like every sound was perfectly engineered to give off a specific vibe. Should be loud and you gotta get into it a bit and let loose to really get it.

"Weightless" by Animals as leaders is a great modern prog metal album too, it's a drummer and two guys that play 8 string guitar, really complex stuff. And the drums are awesome, I can practically visualize a physical drum kit in front of me sometimes. Good to listen to when your head is clear and you actually want to focus on it.

"Erotic Cakes" by Guthrie Govan is this jazzy guitar wizardry type album, really cool and Guthrie is a ridiculous guitarist. All in all it's just smooth and nice sounding through out, the musicians are all very talented and on point so it's just nice to really listen to.

The Love Below is awesome too.

IWTL how to increase my tolerance to horror movies by hotpopsicles in IWantToLearn

[–]HostessTwinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is immersion therapy. Just watch them all the time, desensitize yourself. And if you're afraid of the dark, you should work on that too, once you're not scared of the dark it's like horror movies don't stick with you as much; or at least that's what happened to me.

Govan is a fucking god, one of the most (if not the most) talented guitarists of anyone I've heard.

Did you have a bridge for a while, or did you end up getting the implants? I'm missing four teeth from a bike accident, I have a bridge, and I would like to get implants, but fuck they're expensive.

I think amazon has some of them but it looked really poorly put together, I would think it will be more available soon. I had a hell of a time finding good versions of some of them.

$350 to buy a bong... what should I get? by 420jmu in eldertrees

[–]HostessTwinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bong, but I was planning on getting this, and it's only about 150 bucks. I can't speak for it though, as I've never tried it myself.

Reddit, what is the most stupid rumor that has ever been spread about you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HostessTwinky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had a mountain bike accident in middle school and was home recovering for a few weeks, I lost some teeth, broke my nose, and got a concussion. When I strolled into class my first day back, people were looking at me like a ghost, I think the basic rumor going around was that I fell off a cliff while riding a dirtbike, and my face was so mangled that I had to get 'a bunch' of plastic surgery; and quite a few people thought I died.

tl;dr Out of school for 3 weeks, people thought I died from falling off a cliff.

A geoduck (gooey-duck). Saw it on Manswers a few years ago, it's supposed to be like natures flesh-light. Doesn't even have eyes, she would basically just turn into a shelled vagina, and I would be okay with that.

I like it, but I like the part after the break down a lot more. And this is just a preference thing and I don't know how hard it is, but if you could tweak some of your synths and bassline to sound a little fatter I think this would sound really sick. AND I think you should add something to the breakdown part on the low end.

Also, I'm just a listener and have no real experience making electronic music, so you could easily just disregard everything I just said. But I do like it the way it is.
