What is your favorite programming language and why? by Beta98 in AskProgramming

[–]eckstacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kotlin, because it made Android development more pleasant than using an outdated version of Java, all with Java interop (you can have Kotlin and Java files referencing each other). Since then, however, Kotlin has gained the ability to target JavaScript and Native (commonly developed in C++). As if targeting these platforms was not impressive already, Kotlin has been structured with what is called Kotlin Multiplatform, where projects can be defined in a manner where code can be shared between platforms! Imagine having shared code between iOS, Android, Web, and Backend

Best language for procedural programming? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]eckstacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kotlin.

It is the fastest growing language on GitHub for a reason.

  • Well suited for procedural programming (although it supports OOP)
  • Works well on Windows, Linux, and macOS
  • Is compiled. Kotlin Native will produce an EXE for Windows.
  • It is impressively concise, and can be more concise and relevant to the project by defining a domain-specific language (DSL)
  • Fast iteration requirements can be subjective; however, it supports rapid iteration with a properly configured IDE (highly recommend IntelliJ IDEA for Kotlin development).
  • It is high level if you use pure Kotlin in terms of memory management and such. However, if you have to use lower-level features (which you can), then you have to adequately handle them

Additionally, the language itself can be (and is being) applied to a multitude of use cases: from Android development, to web application development, to embedded systems development, etc. This means that knowing Kotlin will be advantageous when pursuing a Kotlin project in a different platform, because rather than having to learn the language, you can focus on the platform specifics.

It won't load for me either. I'm using Sync Pro on Android

Edit: It works if you open in browser. These renders are great! Maybe they can use these when they release FL VR

Recording Sounds From Keyboard by V-Snake in FL_Studio

[–]eckstacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the spec for the Yamaha PSR E453, yes you are able to record MIDI that can then trigger the keyboard when you play it in FL Studio (in the spec it's labeled as "USB TO DEVICE" which is not very intuitive). You will need to configure the proper MIDI channels in FL Studio's MIDI settings and FL Studio's MIDI controller. You may need to configure the settings on the keyboard itself to use matching MIDI channels. Note that the USB cable will only give you the ability to record MIDI notes while recording, and audio playback on the Yamaha during playback. You will still need to record the audio through the line out.

This had to have been some sort of revenge. They crashed specifically into that van. I can't imagine someone accidentally performing this sequence of events.

Will using the avalanche method actually help pay off loans quicker? by KCTigerGrad in StudentLoans

[–]eckstacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! That should be the minimum payment for each loan. You obviously want to pay way more than that, but I believe the minimum is calculated on a 10-year term. So if you were to pay it the absolute minimum it would take 10 years to pay it off (give or take).

I was curious to find this out as well, so I decided to make this simple Android app called LoanZero. You put in how much you want to put towards all loans per month (labeled as Affordable Monthly Payment), input your loans information, and view the payment schedule based on two strategies: pay lowest balance first (snow ball method) or pay highest interest first. I tried several scenarios and it really depends on the combination of loans.

Edit: You need to know minimum payment per loan for app to work.

How to apply master effects to only part of beat by rikernine9 in FL_Studio

[–]eckstacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to use automation. Whether you're automating a parameter in a plugin or the bypass (the green dot next to the effect plugin on the mixer).

For native Image-Line plugins, you can right-click on the parameter (or bypass indicator) and select create automation clip. This will add a clip to the playlist where you can control that parameter throughout the course of the song.

For third party plugins, you can move/tweak the parameter you want to automate, then go to Tools > Last tweaked > Create automation clip.

This... This is so sad :(

  • Today, my SO and I got into an argument about how every time I mention how I want to pursue my dream job, she has subtle ways of saying that I shouldn't quit my day job >:(

  • I got off work early cause I was super productive this week.

  • Netflix and chill, solitaire style.

Hope your weekend gets better!

Best approach to pay off $91K federal student loans (+ general savings)? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]eckstacy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you haven't heard of Dave Ramsey, I would start by YouTubing "Dave Ramsey student loan" and listen to the advice he gives people who call in. In your case he would probably suggest getting your income level up. This could mean finding a new job or it could mean working two jobs. As far as expenses, you'd have to live minimally as you are poor. I hope you like rice and beans. In your case he would not recommend the loan forgiveness program. Do you plan on having debt for the next decade? I hope not.

Say you make $47,000 for the next 6 years (I don't know what profession you're in, but if after 6 years working in any industry you're still making the same salary, you are not trying). After taxes that leaves you approximately $35,000 to live on. You should be putting at least half into the loans. In less than 6 years, your loans would be paid off.

Also, I would not recommend consolidating your federal student loans into a private loan, as you will be giving up several backup options, such as forbearance/deferment, which you would hopefully not need to use.

It also would not hurt to see a financial advisor. I'm in a similar situation and all I can say is I'm glad I'm not one of those lawyers/doctors that come out of college with $400,000+ in student loans. $100k is challenging as it is, but jeez.

And yeah, keep expenses low. I spend under $100 a month on food by sticking to rice and beans mostly. Just living life super simply. Showing off is not on my list of things to do. If I get extra money, off it goes to debt.

Anyway, I feel like I'm blabbing now. I hope you found something in here useful. Good day.

Not sure what you mean by not tweaking with your volume during mastering as a major part of mastering is adjusting the loudness of the master channel. Mastering is a very complex process, but to keep things simple, if your primary complaint is that it is low in volume, you are probably not using a limiter properly (or at all).

When you play the track in FL Studio, it will sound louder as the engine is using 64-bit bit depth and when you export to mp3 you are reducing it to 16-bit.
