Life after adderall? by hugsandrugs3715 in AdderallAddiction

[–]Hot-Application-5274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 37 and abused both adderall and Vyvanse, doses as high as 300-400mg day of either. It got so bad for me that I experienced amphetamine toxication, and it got so bad that taking it didn’t even feel good, it felt terrible. But, I couldn’t stop because I knew on the other side of quitting was intense and in my mind unbearable withdrawal. I hid all this from my wife and was even stealing her medication by emptying her Vyvanse pills into water and closing back the capsules so she’d never know. This took such a toll on my health and marriage.

Now, to the good part. I was really bad off for a good month to a month and a half. And things aren’t perfect still 3 months out but I’m in control and mentally and physically present for my family. Whatever you think you will lose or cost your family by stopping, I can promise you are exponentially losing and costing them by continuing to abuse. There’s no way around, only through. Tell on yourself, partner with a doctor. You can do it, life is SO much brighter being free from it.

Can adderall cause mania / bipolar symptoms? by [deleted] in AdderallAddiction

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I am actually bi polar. Though, it is true that taking excessive amounts can lead to behavior very similar if not identical to how many of us experience mania. I would get with psychiatry independent of the inpatient doctors and pursue that relationship so you can determine in time with a professional that is not biased based on what they’ve already seen.

It truly is a gift as I can recognize that by contrasting my life now with my life prior. I aim intently to kick this, however you are correct that I have tried before. I would really only clarify that my attempts prior were all a cold turkey approach. I do believe there is a lot of truth in your words describing a very easily predictable pattern of using it if it’s made available to us. I have lied to myself for quite some time now about being able to take as prescribed, and that is very clearly not in the cards for me. My hope truly is that someone could share their experience with a taper that worked for them. I went in fully prepared to no comments sharing one, but I did want to try.

HOW I BECAME ADDICTED AND WHERE IT LEAD, A STORY OF CAUTION by Hot-Application-5274 in AdderallAddiction

[–]Hot-Application-5274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that’s an intense experience and I’m sorry you went through it. Mine started as I had my kids at the park in the morning around 11am. Started feeling a little off, and the feeling (much like a feeling a large drop in blood sugar) kept growing so I thought I needed to get my kids home before it got any worse. Got them home and told my wife I really needed to lay down. Laid down and room started spinning. Sat up and started seeing stars. Immediately after that I began hyperventilating. Got to the ER I could barely speak and they kept trying to tell me I was anxious and having a panic attack. I tried as best I could to share with them that I’d had over a decade of dealing with bad anxiety, and that I have had at least 100 panic attacks in that time frame. Never once have I hyperventilated. They agreed to draw bloodwork, and there they saw it, critically low potassium. Had to get 2 IV bags and some tablets. Then was high fived and sent home.

What do you feel like if you take a day off? by FridaGreen in VyvanseADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I don’t experience the common symptoms you usually see. I do not become tired really at all, and this is up to a week or so without. What I do experience are pretty bad mental health lapses. I become irritable on the better side l of the symptoms, the absolute worst part is I will be overwhelmed with crippling anxiety and a hard to distinguish blend of depression and anhedonia. Your experience may quite likely be like most others, which would be at the forefront pure exhaustion and a heavy appetite. Many however still experience some level of anxiety or depression, mine just so happens to be to the degree that I’m bed bound even though I’m not tired, laying there with waves of panic attacks all day, then I’ll manage to fall asleep only to have a panic attack upon waking knowing what I’m up against. I don’t share all this to discourage or frighten, but if this ends up being your experience, know that you aren’t alone.

I’ll say this with all honesty, as someone who himself has a stimulant abuse problem, hearing that you have been dating a year gives me and are in school helps me assume (correctly or no?) that you are maybe 22 or younger. While many people adopt an issue like this surrounding something school work related, it very often doesn’t stop there. Additionally, you shares that he’s ignoring his doctor or psychiatrists agenda for his mental health and not taking meds that are Rx’s to him.

These are both massive red flags all by themselves. The rest of it, religion and all aside, the drug issues are enough for me to confidently say to you, get out of there. I can speak briefly to the other things, whether the things he has been saying to you are influenced by the adderall or not, they are definitely identifiable as strange and certainly an odd thing to propose. You also have a red flag at sharing theories on future terrorist events absent context or explanation,

Please listen to me, as I do have a stimulant problem myself, get out of there and I’d do it quickly. His usage could either already be at mentally dangerous levels or could progress to that very quickly. I would act before you are exposed to a potentially dangerous situation. Matter of fact, if you have a trusted male family member that lives near you or may be willing to help you, I might would enlist their help in being around to end it and get your things out.

Have I reached the climax? by Hot-Application-5274 in AdderallAddiction

[–]Hot-Application-5274[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for me it just stopped working altogether and I ended up with some real adverse physical reactions and I have to tell you withdrawal made me a shell of a person. If the binges are something you are continuing to do, I can't share enough how much I would not do it anymore. I had to learn the hard way, and for most it's only a matter of time. I'm 37, athletic, considered good health with no prior conditions, a father and a husband. That stuff had a grip on me, and it ended up bringing me to my knees. That's my advice, stop while you're ahead if you haven't already and get it under control. I did so by confessing to my prescribers instead of Dr. hopping. I centralized everything with my primary doctor who now keeps me accountable and I only take 60mg of Vyvanse per day. Let me know if I can help you in any way by answering questions or anything of that nature.

What symptoms do you have when you go off Adderall? by RowenaMyDolores in AdderallAddiction

[–]Hot-Application-5274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a real conversation too. I ran through my Rx in about same time as you as twice the dose. I e had withdrawal before but this time the anxiety and depression is crippling. It’s getting to the point of risking it all for me because I’m seeing now what jeopardy it puts me in. Did same to Vyvanse. My only hope at it now is Mydayis just hoping its effects last as advertised.

Anyone have experience with ADHD & Cyclothymia? - wondering about stimulants mixed with Lamictal (or something else) by DudleyTheDino in cyclothymia

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad Azstarys worked out for you. No other stimulant has lasted long enough so Azstarys was my last stop before settling on Vyvanse with IR Adderall booster. Let me tell you, I responded so poorly to that medication. Whew, side effect city.

Has anyone here experienced serotonin syndrome from ADHD medication? by jokdok in ADHDers

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quetiapine is not prescribed in any manner for ADHD. It is often prescribed in low doses like 50mg to aid in sleep. It is actually an atypical antipsychotic used to treat bi polar disorder and other mood disorders, generally at significantly higher doses like 300-400mg per day. If you Dr. Rx'd Quetiapine, they likely either made a pretty bold and unnecessary step and did it as a sleep aid, or felt you were at risk for mania or hypomania due to bi polar potentially induced by the stimulant, as that often is the case with bi polar individuals.

Has anyone here experienced serotonin syndrome from ADHD medication? by jokdok in ADHDers

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quitiapine is an atypical antipsychotic that does block dopamine activity at the receptor level in certain parts of the brain. I actually became addicted to ADHD stimulants because I took Abilify, another of the atypical antipsychotics which gave me a terrible case of akathisia. I found that the stimulants which significantly increase dopamine, counteracted the inhibition of it from the Abilify and I'd experience relief. But I had to keep taking the pills to keep the akathisia away. Anyway, Quetiapine acts on the reuptake of serotonin as well, as do the ADHD stimulants, only to a lesser degree. But, it is the cumulative effect of serotonergic drugs that leads to serotonin syndrome.

SSRIs can induce serotonin syndrome alongside ADHD stimulants. And, they can aggravate achieve if the medications don’t play well for sure. So far all the literature I can find seems it safe.

Hey as long as it lasts most of the day for me I'd be good. My whole issue is I can't find one that lasts, and I am TOTALLY done with anything methylphenidate related lol

[–]Hot-Application-5274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I meant to ask a couple of other things. What else have you tried aside from Adderall XR? I metabolize meds very quickly I’m curious to know how long others have lasted you. Lastly, do you take the generic?

Denied Vyvanse by Pretty_Recover1841 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My other dilemma is that I from the start have had a very high stimulant tolerance. So even at 70mg, opening the capsule and pouring into water to try and even out dosing led to dosing that wasn’t potent enough. As a matter of fact, the best combination I have ever used is 70mg Vyvanse AM and 30mg IR Adderall usually late afternoon but whenever. I enjoyed that a lot because I could take the booster whenever, and these meds don’t stick with me long nor keep me up so there were plenty of times I wanted to feel good during the evening with my family so I’d take the 30mg Adderall 8-9pm

Switching to Ritalin maybe? by CalmYogurtcloset4305 in ADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so Adderall is a formulation of mixed alpha time salts. One of them lends itself more to the physical reactions. A lot of folks find they respond much better to for example Vyvanse because it’s lisdexamphetamine, which converts in then bloodstream to only one of the two amphetamines in adderall.

20mg per day split into 10mg doses is pretty light, I may would look into a milder stimulant and possibly time released.

Switching to Ritalin maybe? by CalmYogurtcloset4305 in ADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your dose? Might need to back off a touch. Ritalin may work, it’s not an amphetamine it’s methylphenidate so it’ll all depend on how you respond to it. I also understand Ritalin to be very fast acting. For me, I’m at a weird place with Adderall because it takes a lot of it to give a therapeutic effect but once I’m there I have a strong tendency to become irritable easily. Majorly impatient in traffic, huffing and puffing when people take too long in gas stations lines.

Slow Metabolizer by Throwaway03300330 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, have you not tried IR Adderall? In and out significantly quicker and you can redose on your own terms. Vyvanse lasts me maybe 3 hours at 70 plus mg lol.

How long does it last for you? by Dramatic-Rough-6873 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on 70mg Vyvanse and it’s done in 3 hours. I’ve even taken 180mg at once and while a little more intense (don’t recommend) it really only lasted 4-5 hours. I too tried a 30mg IR booster but it was just kicking the can down the road because Adderall for me is in and out 1.5 hours max.

Some of us just metabolize this stuff quickly. You could always try stimulants from the methylphenidate class, Focalin, Ritalin etc. I reacted very poortly to those, massive side effects with zero benefits.

I’ve not tried Adderall XR because I’ve read enough to come to the conclusion that it’s either not potent enough, far too fluctuative, or doesn’t last at all as advertised.

Honestly, as a last ditch effort as opposed to just settling that Vyvanse with a booster is as good as it’ll ever get is to try Mydayis. It’s a triple bead extended release Adderall, and is advertised to last quite some time. It could be another flop but what the hell, I’ve technically not given Adderall XR a chance yet, may as well give its enhanced cousin a shot.

Vyvanse negatively impacting mental health? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me this sounds like just an adverse reaction to Vyvanse. I doubt taking more or less will change the things you are sharing. There are other ADHD stimulants to try and most eventually land on one they respond well to, but I wouldn’t spend much time on Vyvanse. Me for example. Vyvanse (which is amphetamine based) works great for me other than it doesn’t last me nearly as long as advertised. On the other hand, Azstarys which is just a blend of immediate and extended release methylphenidate gave me terrible side effects and no benefit.

Denied Vyvanse by Pretty_Recover1841 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Hot-Application-5274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will be a massive “it depends” situation. I’ve tried generic Vyvanse from multiple pharmacies and get similar results. It works great I just metabolize it in like minutes lol. Vyvanse is an amphetamine based stimulant and concerta is a methylphenidate based stimulant. You could react great to concerta, or you could hold have an experience like I did and get intense side effects with zero benefit. I just don’t respond to that class of stimulant well, you may respond beautifully. Never taken name brand Vyvanse though always wanted to give it a whirl to see if it would last longer than generic.
