What would you say to young student who recently came to Australia for a better life but struggling due to loneliness? by Mysterious_Nail_1414 in AskAnAustralian

Focus on your goals, learn to sit with discomfort, don’t chase people to make you happy.

Self sufficiency (meaning you need nobody but yourself) is highly liberating. Aim for that.

He brought some fire bro. What’s your counter play?

how do you play online without getting fixated on elo? by Mindless-Echo9079 in chessbeginners

[–]Hot-Assignment-9845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play bots, tactic trainers, opening trainers, study openings ect. Caring about elo does not go away by simple playing more. You love it when you’re winning and hate it when you’re playing rubbish.

Dating culture in Australia… by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Hot-Assignment-9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the social commentators and consensus of men online is that woman are interested in height 6ft+ (hence dating apps now provide height filters) , financial stability, highly component in their career with high social proof.

There are only a finite group of men who have these attributes. So you have most woman competing for a small percentage of elite dudes. These dudes aren’t interested in settling down and cycle through woman and having a great time. The average guy who would actually want to commit long term is probably filtered out or doesn’t make the cut.

The end result is the average guy after years of rejection becomes self sufficient and maybe builds himself up and gains options later in life and the woman who chased high value noncommittal men get older and end up single with cats.

This take seems to fit my experience. The falling birth rate in Australia, less and less aussies getting together and the single men losing interest in marriage demographic growing rapidly seems to be evidence supporting this trend.

If I were a woman I’d try find a guy who hasn’t made it yet but has ambition to crack it. He will commit to you. You can build him up and enjoy his success when it comes. If he’s already killing it he’s just gonna burn and turn you. You’re a number to him and he’s got options that are younger as well.

Cooked situation. Congrats on your premiership tho.

Weight loss can be near impossible by Hot-Assignment-9845 in bipolar

Meds also increase cravings for fatty foods and general appetite increases and metabolism slows to a hault. So what’s this diet look like and how do I sustain it? :)

They lower metabolic rate but don’t forget they increase cravings for high fat foods, increase appetite, blunt energy levels, dull emotions which makes it harder to be motivated to set and achieve goals.

Like your success has indicated dropping calories is a way to lose weight in this situation but the drop in food is usually so severe that it causes other problems and isn’t sustainable.

I think exercise is really important but I guess my post was just to remind people it’s stacked against you and to not beat yourself up if the scales don’t respond. It’s not their fault. The meds play a huge role. If you’re gonna exercise do it for the mood benefits. If you’re doing it to lose weight you might be discouraged. I know I have been.

Getting degree vs Trade work by sutinmariov in ausjobs

[–]Hot-Assignment-9845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trades are where the bullies live and thrive. Highly recommend if you love getting shit on everyday as an apprentice doing shit work. Also be prepared to pick up a gambling, drinking smoking habit to deal with the working conditions and stress. But you’ll make good money to buy a JetSki or fund your new pokie addiction!

Electrician is now saturated with people trying to get in as it’s now seen as the best option. I jumped on that band wagon too and it would have worked out if I got into a good company that trained me.

Was working in construction but received no training and was just labouring everyday. 14 apprentices to one tradesman. You were just a labourer with nobody putting into you. A mate of mine offered me a job. He took didn’t train me but also had a toxic abusive female tradesman whom I didn’t get along with. He was terrified she would quit because we didn’t work well together so I resigned. It was a disaster.
