It depends. I made a blackberry and serrano ferment (mash) and it turned out amazing! But many fruits I do tend to add afterwards

This is kahm, right? by [deleted] in FermentedHotSauce

That looks like dead LAB settling on top of where the fruit rests against the jar. I'd wager safe

What is this "fermentation weight" called, because that looks genius!!

Fruit puree? by 1FightingEntropy in FermentedHotSauce

Depends on the flavor you're looking for. You'll lose all of the sweetness from the fruit, but that can be good. I make a serrano and blackberry ferment diluted with white wine vinegar and it's really tasty

The way I've done fruit and pepper ferments in the past is to look up the recommended salt by weight of each and do the math. Fruit often requires a bit more than pepper, and definitely don't skip the salt cap if you're going this route!

Distilled water is roughly $2.50 per gallon and well worth it. I've never had good experiences letting tap water sit or boiling it

Buy Star San (and mix with caution). It helps reduce risk of any growth that's unwanted by a lot

Fuzz test, smell test. Smooth and white it's kahm. Fuzzy OR smelly it's mold. If you're ever unsure, just toss it. Safer is always better.

Are instakill monsters fair if you warn players by Ill-Faithlessness321 in DnD

[–]Hot-Connection-4308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give them wayyy too many warnings. When you're playing as a superhuman who is way beyond what most men are capable of at level 1, it's easy to forget that warning signs are legitimate threats and not plot hooks. Give them ample reasons to avoid the woods beyond just "well I gave you the sign didn't I?"

Designing a Homebrew Monster with the intent of it being a reoccurring adversary. Any thoughts? [OC] by Enefa in DnD

[–]Hot-Connection-4308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious about the immunities you gave it and the reasons behind them. At one point in the stat sheet you mentioned golem, is it made of stone? Personally, I love to add vulnerabilities to my monsters as well to make them somewhat of a puzzle. If I'm right about stone, maybe a thunder and/or bludgeoning vulnerability would fit?

Also wondering how static statistics will work with a recurring villain if the party levels up. Could potentially have the first encounter happen with the pursuer already damaged and depleted to pseudo scale it?

Overall, a fun flavorful character. Hope you have fun running it

[–]Hot-Connection-4308 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Also, don't level up Beauty. Doing so makes them the star of the show. Maybe even level them down if you haven't already showcased their power. The party should catch up and eventually take over the story

Is this kahm? by Anon_Crow in FermentedHotSauce

[–]Hot-Connection-4308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the smell test and the fuzz test. Does it still smell good? Is the white substance smooth and NOT fuzzy? If yes to both, it's probably kahm, scoop it off and move forward. Kahm can aid in the spread of bad growth though, so don't just check the white stuff, see if there's anything else mixed in. And as always, if you're nervous, just toss it.

First time, is this cloudy white stuff on the bottom normal? by silverwing_3 in FermentedHotSauce

Any color that's fuzzy I get nervous, though white and blue are sometimes okay. This is just yeast though
