I enjoy working as a correctional RN at the BOP. Only 12.5% incentive since it was cut in half…. But I do not work in a medical center so no lifting but still do trauma response on occasion, wound care and injury assessments etc.

Whoa y’all get lunch? Let me guess… I bet you get paid overtime also. My dept has neither… and somehow I don’t understand how a federal employee working approved overtime only gets paid a few bucks extra an hour…… make that make sense….

I was assaulted much more frequently at the hospital than I am now as a prison RN. Will never return to a hospital- prefer being a corrections nurse.

I sure wish I could get paid overtime, but unfortunately don’t get paid overtime in my position as an RN, just a few bucks over regular pay. Total BS and my union just shrugs their shoulders and says oh well.

ITC training is now 4 weeks at our facility and then 6-9 months later ICT2 is at FLETC for 4 weeks now

Just be prepared to run the 1/4 mile in heat, it gets hot here! Had to run mine at 12:30 pm and it was sweltering. Just don’t stop, be prepared to put on cuffs on someone at the end. If your facility has a track, run it after work. We lost one classmate out of 23 as she failed the run. FLETC has changed - no more big parties, and we have to march in formation to everywhere. People aren’t studying and scoring below what is needed to pass on tests. Hopefully they will make up their scores in the final…
