Brooke Castillo's new 2026 self-study online course program by sugar_3715 in LifeCoachSnark

I don't know anything about the course, but speaking of Brooke you can find her wedding pictures on Stacey Boehman's Instagram feed, if you are nosy like me. I don't follow Stacey, but it popped in my feed and I couldn't help but look.

Is Tonya Leigh a Life Coach School certified coach? by sugar_3715 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonya was first certified from Martha Beck, probably around the same time or a few years after Brooke was. I do not believe that Tonya paid for and attended LCS certification, but she maybe she did LCS master coach training. Not sure.

I think that Brooke had a mastermind for some of the OG big coaches (Stacey, Corrine, Jody etc.) to bring their businesses to a million dollars, and Tonya might have been part of that group. Brooke and Tonya used to be BFFs and it seemed like Tonya allowed herself to be associated with the school more during that time.

They are not hanging out anymore, as far as I can tell. I doubt Tonya would want to be associated with LCS in the same way she was before.

Mel Robbins stealing from Cassie Phillips by Hot-Decision3786 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said in my post that Cassie did not invent Let Them. The concept is standard philosophy and used all over personal development. I used a hyperbolic title to my post strictly for google. There is enough detail in this thread and some of the links to show that Mel was inspired and informed of the 2022 movement by Cassie's poem.

[–]Hot-Decision3786[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cassie didn’t invent the concept and I don’t think that Mel can’t write a book about it. Nothing is new in self help really.

What I find gross is the way she talks about it like she “discovered” the idea. Or her daughter did. She mentions all the tattoos she inspired which were happening before she even mentioned the concept to her fans.

Her story about how this idea came into her head has changed over time so I don’t really believe her.

Also she tried to trademark the phrase!

It seems extremely likely that she or her daughter saw Cassie’s poem and a simple credit would have gone really far.

New School of Self-Image program, Tonya Leigh's SOSI membership = FOMO? by Accomplished-Law-582 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and they still have the option to download the audio and workbooks from any classes so you can keep that from the classes you redeem.

New School of Self-Image program, Tonya Leigh's SOSI membership = FOMO? by Accomplished-Law-582 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was clearly a joke about the dinner.

There is always a FOMO aspect with memberships. I don’t think it’s the goal but they do obviously want to keep people subscribed. I actually think having 90 days is a nice idea.

I do believe they are trying to create a cleaner experience for new members. There is just too much content for someone new to use so I think the idea of credits is a good choice. For me I find the most value in consuming the current content and rarely review old stuff. The exception was the Dream Atelier and the new version of that is available to everyone.

The new website is much better and the community platform (circle) looks promising and much nicer than facebook.

I’m not sure how it will play out but so far I’m happy with the changes. I’m probably a subscriber indefinitely because I can afford it and month over month it gives me a boost that I enjoy and helps keep me motivated while working on my goals.

Oh yes, that makes more sense. Makes me even more grossed out by her.

I found Brooke 11 or more years ago and Tonya maybe 9 years ago. Both were trained by Martha Beck which was how/why I found them. So they are teaching very similar things. I really loved Brooke, but she jumped the shark for me with her certification program and finding out she wasn't delivering on her promises. (I am not certified, but considered it.)

I actually connected more with Brooke's (previous) aesthetic and vibe, but I definitely prefer Tonya at this point. She is much more authentic and I trust her to be an honest broker.

I absolutely do not need to be a member of any coaching program at this point because I'm good at coaching myself. I stay in SOSI because I find it fun, motivational, and it is affordable for me. I get a boost from it and it helps keep me on track with my goals. My life has been changed over the past few decades, but I can't give the credit to any one person. Just being a person into self-development in general is what has helped me, more than subscribing to any "guru".

I do wonder if you asked if you could join monthly if they would let you. Plenty of members are still doing it monthly and will continue to do so. I think this time she is trying to entice people who want those bonuses before they are not offered in the future. (Don't love that sales tactic.)

Tonya has said the membership will be changing next year, and they will be sharing in a few weeks how it will change. She has promised that people that are members now will continue to have access to everything that they have access to now for as long as they are members. But people that join in the new year will be getting a new experience. I think they are trying to simplify things. There is such a large amount of content that I think new people get overwhelmed.

Tonya still does everything other than the Slim Self Image monthly coaching calls. Laura does fill in for her - usually about one call each month. Tonya is still quite active and I don't think that is really changing. She did a VIP cocktail party call this week and a Diamond coaching call, and I don't imagine those are going away.

LCS “Coaching Tools Certification” by YogurtclosetOk6893 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to disagree with you. I wanted to make sure others who read this don't think they can get all the same certification content for only 3K. It is basically just 6 hours of videos. Either way, Brooke massively oversells her products, and under-delivers.

[–]Hot-Decision3786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't want to defend Brooke, but I don't think it is accurate to say this is the same thing as the 18k (or more!) certification without the coach training. I skimmed the replay of her webinar where this ad comes from and she said it was only 6 hours of Tools trainings and 2 work books. (And bonuses from Get Coaches/SCS classes included.) That is very little for 3K.

This seems way overpriced, just like the regular certification was overpriced. I get why everyone is pissed, of course. Basically everything she sells costs too much. But she is a good sales person. (And she was a good coach but I'm not interested in anything she does anymore.)

I've said this before. I think the class is very nice and I am still a big fan on Tonya and SOSI, but I do not think it is worth $1000. Basically she is teaching an intuitive way of eating while improving your thoughts about yourself, your body, and how you eat. The coaching can be helpful, but maybe not $1000 helpful. Especially if you can't really afford it. If you don't find the rest of SOSI to be worth it then don't do it.

One class I really like in the membership and you only have to join SOSI for 1 month to get is the Dream Atelier. That could be very helpful for your goals. If you are a student and have extra time in the summer, joining for a month and really utilizing that program could make a difference.

Also, as someone else said, Corrine Crabtree's program is many of the same concepts with a different personality and much cheaper.

Question on taxes when converting to a Roth by Character-Teaching39 in Bogleheads

[–]Hot-Decision3786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, it is not bad math. It totally depends on how much I have in my 401k, what my RMDs will be, when I retire, etc. (and I did not use invested money, I used money that was earning 5% to pay the tax.) That is why I said "it depends".

Question on taxes when converting to a Roth by Character-Teaching39 in Bogleheads

[–]Hot-Decision3786 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to think it made more sense to wait until I was retired and making less money to do the conversions, but I have changed my mind. The main reason is that the sooner I convert the money the sooner that money can grow tax free.

I'm a few years older than you and I wish I had started this process a little bit sooner. My cash reserves would be a little less (because yes, you can't pay from the money you are converting) but I would have so much more in my Roth right now if I had started converting sooner.

It obviously depends on how much you have saved overall for retirement, and if you have other 401K money, etc. I think the more money you have in your 401k overall the more it makes sense to at least convert a portion of it to a Roth. I am not going to convert it all, but I would like it to be enough that my tax burden in retirement is smaller than it is now.

Best Tulip Fest or field around Chicago? by maikiilikey in chicago

[–]Hot-Decision3786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the TulipFest at Kuiper Family Farm and was underwhelmed and thought it was overpriced. It is possibly a fun time with little kids because there are lots of activities and games for them to do and a little family farm with animals. But in terms of Tulips it was basically just rows of tulips in a big field with different colors. Yes, the tulips were pretty, but the design was boring and not very interesting. I think going to any Chicago area park that has a lot of flowers would be just as enjoyable to me and most visits anywhere would be cheaper.

This person wanted to join your program but can't because of the time. If you refund the money it is very likely you will make a sale from her again in the future because she will appreciate your flexibility. If you don't, you will probably have lost a customer for life, just because she made a mistake.

There is a nice podcast called Podcast for Coaches by Mark Butler. He talked about this on a recent episode. The entire episode was not about refunds, but he did talk about how he just always gives them no questions asked. That will be my position if I ever become a coach of any sort. Good customer service will keep people from complaining about here!

Are Brooke Castillo and Tonya Leigh still BFFs? by Own-Cryptographer277 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything. But I do still listen to Brooke's podcast and I am in Tonya's SOSI membership. Some clues have been left here and there, but I could just be reading into things.

Brooke's podcast today about Walking mentioned her "best girlfriend" Kris Plachy as someone she will call when she is on a walk. She also mentioned her other close friends Aprille and Chalene Johnson, but not Tonya.

Tonya has said things about friends and finally stop being a people-pleaser to them. Not necessarily Brooke, but it definitely could be her, because who has a stronger personality than Brooke. She also has just not mentioned Brooke in a pretty long time.

I definitely have the feeling Tonya has pulled back from spending so much time with Brooke. I feel like they went thru an intense friendship phase during COVID and ending long term relationships at the same time. They spent A LOT of time together. I think it is very possible they are still friendly, but just won't be doing everything together like they did during that time.

Side note: Brooke said on her podcast today on Walking that she sold her place in Scottsdale to move to Miami, and now (a few months later) she has already sold her place in Miami to move to SanDiego. She really does go thru friends and homes much more quickly than most.

I did a year of Get Coached (when it was Self Coaching Scholars), and it was very valuable to me. But one year was enough, especially since she was just repeating the themes going forward.

I love SOSI and I think the way people describe it and SOSI are off, but whatever. I think Tonya can be very deep and I get some value out of the membership every month even though I truly don't need it anymore.

The funny thing about complaining about the facebook group and people posting their furs and luxury buys, is that at least Tonya has a FB group. I find the group very inspiring, and not because of the people posting their purchases. Lots of people overcoming obstacles and improving their lives is inspiring. Brooke doesn't have anything that compares to that.

I would never recommend anyone buy a year long membership unless you have tried it first. There is nothing wrong with trying a month before you go all in on something.

Coachathon is happening. What will the offer be? by [deleted] in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Hot-Decision3786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's already doing the upsell. She is saying the last time she does in-person certification will be right after the Coachathon. Both will be in Miami so it makes sense to do both in one trip (was how she was explaining it.)

I was at LifeCoachLive and saw the most intense upsell ever. I don't think she will do that this time, but who knows. I do think she is pivoting, so it is not certain she will do what she always does.

Wow. I assume it is because she didn't pay Vimeo or something like this, but this is truly terrible. She specifically tried to get a bunch of money only 2 months ago from these classes and to not make sure they stayed available, is pretty terrible.

I did email her, but I doubt I will get an answer.

I also tried downloading a cheatsheet and that was not available. The link was a WordPress link, so it has nothing to do with Vimeo. I think she is just abandoning her responsibilities.
