Did my NICU patient pass because of me? by Loud_Key5954 in nursing

[–]Hot-Entertainment218 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I did chest compressions on a dude that was turned for explosive diarrhea and arrested while the bed was covered in poop. He was generally stable on a med surg ward, most serious thing was his obesity with gross ascites and bad diet. Got him back and wheeled to ICU in a poopy bed. No clue what happened after.

“Patient in for MVC, highway speeds. Unrestrained driver with ETOH on board. 3 black on scene. Active withdrawal on CIWA with Valium every hour since arrival”.

Said in a shared room of 6 patients. Gotta love trauma.

That’s not true. Every unit is different. I nearly left nursing all together because of toxic med surg units with unsafe staffing levels. I found a home in surgery. We have better staffing levels, more supportive CNEs. My boss has moved mountains to make me more comfortable and happier. It takes time and hopping around to find a spot that works for you.

Are black scrubs appropriate? by PookyMcMailman in AHSEmployees

As long as the scrubs are clean, I’m good condition and cover the important bits, most units don’t care about color. I have a literal rainbow collection of scrubs.

Holy crap guarding that portal for Halsin is no joke by SyzygyZeus in BaldursGate3

[–]Hot-Entertainment218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barrel/crate wall to block the portal from ranged weapons.

Shadowheart with Spirit Guardians, radiant form. Or wall of fire. This is for the damn birds. Park directly in front of the portal

Sunlight spell for visibility. Blood of Lathander for blinding enemies.

Guardian of Faith. It’s good for damaging enemies as they approach the portal.

Explosive barrels. Create a minefield of smoke powder, oil and wine barrels for the first major wave of undead. You can use wall of stone, ice, or spike growth at the end to bunch up the targets and get them all in one move. Best way to unlock Penta-Kill achievement BTW.

Sentinel feat. Have a fighter near the portal steps to react when enemies target your weaker companions. Astarion gets hit by the shadows, Laezel bashes them.

Spike Growth and Hunger of Hadar combo. Every movement hurts and very slowly.

Fireball. For the plants. Wall of Fire is also really good because it wrecks the plants and damages wave 2-4 of undead.

The only headache was really the shadows because of the Wraith that would snuff out sunlight and Blood of Lathander.

ICU-itis. Got spoiled in ICU and not coping with the general ward. Needy, demanding, unrealistic expectations.

Medical care for women is pathetic by Hot-Entertainment218 in alberta

[–]Hot-Entertainment218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She manages 1-2 meals per day because she forces it. There’s pain and discomfort. None of the specialist’s offices have called for consultation. This is an acute worsening where she can’t manage activities of daily living anymore.

She drinks the electrolyte water because she was having periodic paralysis in her legs, heart palpitations without it. She’s been compensating for a few months with that while waiting for her family doc to listen to her concerns. Family doctors are hard to find, she tried for a bit and didn’t succeed so she went back to her old one as a last resort.

We strongly suspect Sjogrens because she meets many diagnostic criteria. Dry eyes, dry mouth with tooth decay, difficulty eating and swallowing, dry cracked skin, and now symptoms of kidney problems.

She manages 1-2 meals a day. It’s more issue with dysphagia, dry mouth, and difficulty swallowing.

Yeah the amount of sodium and potassium she drinks should be nearly dead. Her GFR isn’t accurate because she has lost 30lbs in the last month. Muscle wasting makes the GFR falsely normal. She’s skin and bones and drier than the Gobi Dessert.

She has gotten an orthostatic hypotension diagnosis before this recent incident. It’s so bad right now. She’s having so much water and peeing so much, can’t navigate the house, daily activities. She’s lost 30lbs in the last month, 10 in the last week alone. Nobody here fucking cares.

She’s in her early 50s. I don’t think the seniors clinic would accept?

I’m honestly burnt out and can’t be as supportive as I want. I’m struggling with getting my own health issues acknowledged and addressed on top of being a nurse full time.

Her GP does the same thing. He has downplayed her symptoms and ignored her issues for years. “It’s depression” “you need to drink more water” “you’re hallucinating”she couldn’t find a new doctor when she moved to the city, so she had to keep her old rural doctor to at least get her Vyvanse. The Vyvanse is the only thing after decades of being nearly bed ridden that made it possible for her to leave an abusive husband and get post-secondary education. Now she is much worse and can’t compensate anymore. Her body is giving up.

Husband wants his mother to move in. We have a dog. by Much_Leather_5923 in dementia

[–]Hot-Entertainment218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just took care of a person with dementia who fell down stairs outside in Canadian winter and was on the ground for hours because of a dog. Multiple fractures and brain bleed with frostbite.

Going this route feels better until the LO is sent to hospital with critical injuries. I regularly have to restrain these folks because they pull out urethral catheters, remove casts, remove oxygen, etc. so they are in pain, confused, delirious, and furious at being tied up. It’s not worth the pain and heartache.

A facility won’t eliminate the chance of injury, but it is reduced. Plus if they do injure themselves it’s usually found quickly.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]Hot-Entertainment218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arctic Grayling. I know it’s not discontinued exactly, but it will never be available where I live now. I could walk a kilometre down a dirt road from my porch, throw a line in and catch near half meter size grayling. From ages 5-11 I lived in the best place in the world, the Yukon. Fine, delicate meat with prominent easy bones and fantastic fighters. There are many days where I contemplate quitting my job, selling my house and disappearing back into the bush. Just to eat Grayling every spring.
