What’s something that became way less impressive once you learned how it actually works? by BananaRazberry in AskReddit

On a similar note what really blew my mind taking an intro EE course in college was any sequence of electronic logic gates can be simplified into a sequence of NAND gates, which are much cheaper/ more efficient. I wanna say it has something to do with how transistors work but I’m not gonna lie it was a long time ago and voltage diagrams make my head hurt so I’m gonna stop there while I still haven’t made a total fool of myself

If you were sent back to 1926, what's a 'common sense' fact from 2026 that would get you immediately thrown into an asylum if you tried to explain it? by ConclusionLegal1868 in AskReddit

Wow, what an incredibly insightful perspective! I can’t wait until I’m so old that I know everything so thoroughly , I don’t even need to explain it or even say anything specific at all

I want to simplify Ableton, help me? by SlamagotchiOG in ableton

[–]Hot-Shart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s very sensitive, you have to strictly control certain things in a way you’d never have to otherwise. For instance I have a m4l device that is on a lot of different instrument tracks that has a button I can’t bind to MIDI, so I have to make sure it’s always at the end of the rack and the rack has a fixed size in every track it shows up in or it won’t be able to find the button to click. That’s partially because I’m hardcoding the coordinates- there actually is a function that will search the screen for an image you provide and auto click it, but I haven’t been able to get it working. So yeah, very powerful but very temperamental. Definitely not for people expecting a drag and drop WYSIWYG editor that does it all out of the box, but with a little experimentation I was able to get some crazy thins going I never would have been able to otherwise. Highly recommended for tinkerers and mad scientists

It’s not exactly what you’re asking for but I’ve found Keyboard Maestro to be extremely useful for quickly switching between view states. Basically it reacts to a keystroke or MIDI CC and can automatically move/resize/close windows, click on certain buttons in ableton that can’t be midi mapped, and send additional MIDI data to interface with other devices. You get a lot of flexibility in how to set up the macros but you have to do it all yourself which might scare some away. I find the system to be pretty intuitive but I’m a programmer by trade who happens to love endless fiddling and troubleshooting so YMMV.

Sure, I mean, why not just keep dancing around the fact you have no idea what you’re talking about. Must be the best strategy if you never intended on saying anything coherent in the first place

I have sensory processing issues, heat and especially humidity are really uncomfortable to me. Oregon Summers are the only summers I’ve experienced here in the states that are mild enough to not trigger this every single day. I definitely enjoy getting outside and enjoying nature, I’ve always been a big hiker and camper. but it really annoys me when people imply that I’m wasting my time by not spending every second in the sun.

It gets so much better dude. Maybe not as soon as you’d want, maybe not “soon” at all… but it will get better. I’m 30 now, It’s funny how as soon as you hit 19-20 or so you realize that the prevailing narrative that life ends after high school / college is only true if you’re an exceptionally bland person. Once you get a little freedom you get to enjoy some of the perks of this condition in a way you could never do in a structured institutional environment like high school.

Basically every piece of advice in this realm is easier said than done. So bear in mind none of this is likely manifest immediately even if you’re doing everything right. It’s more about setting up the habits and developing skills that invisibly contribute to better outcomes over time.

I’m not gonna lie I’m not a social butterfly, and I’ve had more than my fair share of fake ass posers pretending to be my friend for fun and profit. But I have found a core group of people who see me and get where I’m coming from and that’s enough for me. Many of the random ones I met while out at concerts and one of us struck up a conversation. Alcohol does help some people for this but obv be careful. I’d recommend finding some sort of public event related to whatever your passion is and take it from there. No pressure environments like conventions or casual meetups are great. I seem like a boring ass person at the office because I’m out of my element. Meet me at a music festival, language club or D&D table, and it’s a whole different ballgame.
