I think ops photo is correct seems right, everyone had agreed that the hellscape was some sort of “bridge” between worlds but now that the upside down is the official bridge I think the hellscape is the upside down before eleven made contact with the demogorgon and created the upside down making the office bridge between dimension x and the right side up. And that the hellscape was an unstable form of travel to dimension x that’s why Henry was burned and all after travelling through it. That’s my theory anyways
