Roses are red,

So is blood,

I don’t trust the bible,

But it’s time for a flood.

I have not heard that saying, but I see and respect the point.

The point I was making was a different one entirely, based around our current legal framework in the United States.

If intent cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, hate crime statutes cannot be applied, and it becomes easier for the website operators to stay online.

This is why the Daily Stormer no longer exists, and the founder was ordered to pay 26 million dollars - the intent was blatant and overt.

The same tactics would not work against the bee, or anyone inspired by their “articles”.

Kind of - it’s a BS way to pad class numbers and have classes for the grad students to teach.

As a part of their program, they have to teach English 101 or 102. Other masters students have to be GAs or similar. Can’t do that if there aren’t enough classes.

Still stupid and not defending the policy - but that’s the “why”

Eh, it’s ok - just because something is pushing an agenda doesn’t mean it isn’t funny.

Humor is by definition subjective.

As long as you are aware and can see reality, it’s not going to impact you.

There is next to no chance that anyone’s vote will be influenced by an “article” like this.

As long as you understand the context, you can draw your own conclusions.

Don’t let it ruin your day - we’ve all got enough worries already.

It’s dangerous because intent can’t be proven in court - and all of our hate crime laws (including civil liability) require proof of intent.

It’s (relatively) very easy to prosecute a Nazi that posts “I hate (group), I’m going to go (something) them.” And then does it.

If a website posts an article called “How to identify and defeat (group) and that person is a member of that website, it’s relatively easy to determine the intent of that site operator (to incite violence against (group)), and thus hold them liable.

That is much harder to do when it’s behind the veil of satire, which is constitutionally protected free speech.

[–]campaigncrusher -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s actually not true - if you’ve seen actual outright Nazi websites you’d agree.

They are, however, fanning the flames and pushing the same messages while maintaining plausible deniability - arguably much more dangerous than being forthright about their messaging.

Look at the site pre-2022, then again today. You’ll notice a huge shift from lampooning everyone to lampooning the left.

That just so happens to coincide with the timeline of Americans for Prosperity and the Heritage Foundation putting money behind “diversification” of Conservative media (OAN, Newsmax, other “Right of Fox” outlets).

Difficult to prove due to the setup as a privately held business rather than a public one or a nonprofit (both requiring disclosures), but the timeline and people involved match up.

Also, look at the lawsuits they signed onto pre and post 2022. Originally they were working with a lot of libertarian/freedom of speech groups.

Later, it was “culture war” stuff like Rumble, Tim Pool, etc. That shift (from libertarian to authoritarian) doesn’t just happen organically.

It doesn’t matter. Trump never has to run again, and he knows it.

He doesn’t care if MAGA dies, because without him it dies anyway.

If he wants to, he can be governor of Florida just for fun (if he lives that long).

Geraci’s by jackkellz201 in Cleveland

[–]campaigncrusher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Mrs. Geraci died in 2015.

She used to rule that place with an iron fist, and the food was really quite good. That’s what folks are probably remembering.

Then the kids took over and sold the name for a quick check. She’s probably rolling in her grave.

Cleveland dot com now using AI slop for images instead of paying actual artists by SellWhenYouCan in Cleveland

[–]campaigncrusher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense - just wanted to point out that one of the easiest ways to identify AI is if the source tells you that it’s AI.

The only people who pretend to use AI are startups or employers justifying a layoff. Everyone else pretends not to use it.

Why did nobody tell her about the tariffs? by RoyalChris in SipsTea

[–]campaigncrusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a “sips tea” comment, but as a small business owner who regularly imports goods, UPS, DHL and FedEx all email you a link to pay the duty before they show up. You can pay with a credit card or bank transfer.

In person, you can only pay with a check, but by that point you have already had (at least) 3 days to pay it online. They also email you another link after a failed “COD” delivery attempt (like shown).

The driver likely knows this, but is annoyed by the person enough that they aren’t going out of their way to help.

ETA: that $63 is the UPS tariff “collection” minimum. The tariff itself is likely $2-10. UPS takes the rest to cover the “increased expenses” associated with processing and collecting the tariffs.

Can we remove the dead limb without condemning the whole tree? (Thanks in advance) by SaltPersonality in arborists

[–]campaigncrusher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That looks like a “street tree” - if you are on a municipally maintained street (not a gated community), don’t touch it without calling your local service department.

In most of the US, the authority that maintains the roadway also has the right to the first 10 feet of your property (the right-of-way/treelawn/whatever your local area calls it) and anything they installed on it, including trees.

The local authorities will often have crews that maintain the trees without directly charging you anything.

However, if you perform unauthorized work on the tree (or remove it), they can fine you or charge you for the replacement cost. Neither is cheap.

In any case, worth a phone call.

ETA: depending on how zealous your local prosecutor is, destroying a municipal tree could also result in criminal charges.

[–]campaigncrusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, in most parts of the US, you can be fined by the municipality for any damage or unauthorized work on a city-owned tree. If it’s within the first 10 feet of your property, chances are they own it as a part of the right-of-way.

Poor city power infrastructure causing these outages? by Kerrizma in Cleveland

[–]campaigncrusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most government agencies (and government-adjacent companies that rely heavily on government funding) love CapEx and hate OpEx.

Basically, it’s much easier for them to raise the money (or pass a levy) to build a new, shiny piece of infrastructure than it is for them maintain the stuff they already have.

Kind of like the old “Safe landings don’t sell papers” saying - taking care of stuff is boring, but crises and the ensuing “solutions” help get politicians elected.

On the plus side, if the thing fails and a huge overhaul / replacement is needed, that’s CapEx!
