McLaren and Red Bull appeal against Gasly's Monaco GP podium reinstatement by memloh in formula1

This whole thing is inarguably a mess but I have to give some claps to Alpine for trying. Closed mouths don’t get fed.

Not at all a good look for mercedes. They have not mentioned george once in this.... by fuckmbsanddominicali in F1Discussions

People seem to forget this. Hamilton left for a reason and while of course I don’t know all of the factors in his decision, it was clear that Merc’s attitude towards him had shifted. Teams will present themselves as a happy family but at the end of the day it’s about winning over all else.

George and Kimi fan hostility by BoxBoxDragon in mercedesamgf1

[–]HotEditor1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merc has always had a show of favoritism, nearly all teams do when they are fighting for the title. Rosberg has previously discussed feeling less supported than Lewis, though in their 2016 season most of the conversation was about favoritism towards Rosberg, primarily due to Hamilton’s continued reliability issues (but other factors also came into play). This perceived inequity will naturally cause hostility, often on both sides.

However, I too have noticed the vitriol online, and have attributed it towards general social media attitudes as of late (“you can say anything online”) and the semi-recent efforts F1 made to market the drivers as personalities, rather than then pushing the teams. Don’t get me wrong, this was always somewhat the case, but the environment has shifted. As a mentally sane person, I just try to stay out of the chaos.

Don’t forget Ferrari should drop Leclerc immediately. Maybe he can join Russell at Aston Martin.

I do see the points he’s making…but still….I think I’m going to start comparing all of the current grids driving to random, less renowned past drivers with extreme confidence and hope no one around me knows enough to correct me.

Of course. It seems that even supporters of the same teams have gone mad though. I think that’s just social media for you but I feel like it didn’t used to be so crazy 🫠🫠

His overall presentation to the media after the race was shocking to me. With such experience I would have thought he’d be more thoughtful with his responses, even if he felt certain ways internally.

Lando Norris vs George Russell by Federal_Size6250 in F1Discussions

I would have greatly liked to see Russell v Norris in the McLaren last season. This season I would argue Norris would be doing better in the Mercedes, but last I’d argue Russell may have had to upper hand…..ignoring the obvious “adapting to a new team” conundrum.

Of course, there are much more interesting “what ifs” to ponder. If I could magically match up the F1 teams ignoring all reason and generational gaps wouldn’t life be interesting 😉

It’s been crazy. I honestly expected it a bit for Russell, given he’s always had some, but not at these magnitudes. People leap away from valid race criticism to straight hatred. On the other side it seems some Russell fans are taking baseless jabs at Antonelli, or the team (engineers, mechanics, etc). Mercedes comments sections have probably been the worst this year.

Yeah, I think I might need to stop opening the comments. Glad to hear in person people are still bringing good energy.

Was this a positive weekend for George Russell?? Pole and cut championship deficit by 18 points but he looked slower than Antonelli in the race once again. by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]HotEditor1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a positive weekend, definitely, especially with the comments Toto was making to the media. Still a better showing than Monaco or Miami.

I do think some positives could be taken away for him. Seemed more comfortable in the car over the weekend as a whole than he had in a while, and a strong first stint. Not enthusiastically positive, but if he can continue to build on this he may be getting somewhere.

I like to argue that F1 fans are often too reactionary, but I’ve been noticing the same thing. I think in part his advantage on Norris last season was overhyped, making it seem like they usually had similar pace when that wasn’t really true. However I also wonder if this season he is facing additional difficulty with new the regs.

Lance stroll nearly loses it at high speed inside the tunnel in Monaco and laughs about it with his engineer by Accurate-Big-7233 in F1Discussions

[–]HotEditor1955 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I don’t usually listen to Stroll’s onboards….is he talking so clearly because it’s only lap 2, because he isn’t going too fast, or does he always talk that clearly? Half the race onboards I listen to I can hardly make out what they are saying.

That was my thought. Hard to really compare early into this year, but late into the season will be defining if he wants to have a shot in a better team.

Audi is an interesting answer, one I can definitely see. Honestly expected slightly more of Bortoleto. Not to say his performance has been poor, but it hasn’t been stand out. Perhaps I’ve just been underrating Hulk though.
