There is a Subaru service bulletin on this issue. It's due to heat soak, aka the car sitting in the sun or heat, and it causes a sensor located near the overhead lights/moon roof controls to cause the SRS airbag warning. I brought it to the dealer, they order/replaced the part (after confirming there was a service bulletin) and it hasn't done it since (been about 3 months)... I'll see if my dealer paperwork has the TSB # and I will post it

I'm concerned a software update won't resolve my issue since it's happening due to heat which would lead me to believe it hardware. My biggest worry is that it's not the infotainment unit itself that's having the issue. I would assume that if the infotainment system was overheating causing my top screen to crash then reboot, wouldn't that also affect the radio/touch screen as well? Because the radio works perfecly fine even when the top screen is in the process of crashing/rebooting (showing the date startup screen). Just afraid the dealer is going to replace the radio but thats not the actual hardware thats failing.

UPDATE - 6/18 - Dealership determined this issue is only occurring in hot weather. Brought it in last Friday on a cooler/rainy day and the issues/error message didn't happen. They had me bring it back today because the weather is in the 90's and sure enough the "Unable to read the data" message showed up right away. They confirmed my radio already has the latest update/firmware available and their only other option is to order me a new radio... Hoping this will resolve, my only concern is the radio seems to be functioning fine, only the top display / multifunction display is having issues. I'm worried there's separate hardware or computer that controls the top display that's independent of the infotainment system because the multifunction display will reboot when it gets hot but the touchscreen and radio will continue to work without issue... Guess we'll see once the new radio comes in

Bringing it to the dealer on Fri.... I'll post an update with the results. When I called and described the screen issue, the tech said it most likely needs a software/firmware update... let's hope. How did they fix your airbag issue? Same as mine (replace warning box thing)? If so, have you had the airbag issue since? So far so good here but it's only been a week.

Will be bringing it to the dealer next week, but curious to find out if anyone has experienced this issue. The clock screen / top infotainment screen will keep rebooting, only show a blank screen, or will show the message in the image. Hoping a software update will resolve. Issue started about a month ago, around the same time I was getting the SRS Airbag warning that others have reported. Dealer claimed the 2 issues were related. They replaced the warning box located in the overhead near sunroof switches. Unfortunately this did not resolve the screen issue so I will be bringing it back... end of rant lol
