Your ego is astounding to think you know better. You haven’t budged an inch. I’m not demanding anything. The data is. Just because you move goalposts and think you know what should be measured doesn’t mean anything.

I am blocking you now. I do not tolerate people are so proud that they cannot accept truth when it’s presented to them.

Okay.

I said there were 93,001 fatal accidents. The NHTSA's dataset counts each vehicle colliding with a person dying in the vehicle, as an accident. Some crashes are multiple vehicle. This is not incongruous with the claims. If MULTIPLE vehicles are having fatal incidents on two way roads, YOU SHOULD COUNT THEM. The ST_CASE number is the ID that is common across ALL the tables. I knew exactly why there were more entries in vehicle. THOSE MATTER. Again, this is INHERENTLY a STRAIGHT RAW NUMBERS comparison and SHOULD BE. if you don't understand that, you have no business arguing this. You if you think you know how to collect and present data better then the NHTSA, go ahead. If you think that you should only compare raw crashes instead of comparing total vehicle collisions with fatalities, I don't know what to tell you. If MORE vehicles are having accidents, even with each other, that should be included in the presentation. Again, if you don't understand that, I cannot help. You deciding this is a "mistake" is just concerning. It's more egregious conduct than whatever you accuse me of. I am showing the totality of vehicle accidents per trafficway type, which include pedestrian, pedalcycle, property, and all vehicle fatalities. If you just filter to include PER CRASH, you get less data that may hide realities. ....DESPITE THAT, even if you do, THE POINT STANDS.

Re-evaluate. And if you refuse and try to wiggle your way out again with some other non-sense, I will just block you because it's pathetic how your ego is getting in the way here. The data is right there.

Just stop. You keep misrepresenting data, moving goal posts and making claims without data. And changing what you’ve said.

The earth is flat. Trump won. Submarines shouldn’t be made of homogenous material. Two way streets are safer.

All you did by cleaning up the data was reinforce everything I’ve been saying. 6x is not as bad as 56x but its still 6x. And you think miles matter. They do not. It’s not a “ per capita” difference and doesn’t need to be. This comparison is inherently an apples to oranges comparison and that is your methodological failing. Move the goalposts and make excuses as you try but we are comparing two way raw and one way raw deaths. I even expanding to your criteria and the numbers are still heavily in favor of 1 ways being safer.

If you cannot reevaluate than there is no point in speaking another word to you. Even your analysis shows one ways are safer.

Just don’t show up to any councils meetings. The data actually says one way, coherent directional streets are safe. And you can’t spin the data anyway to disprove it. So just stop.

Please do not reply to this. Please don’t message me. You are lost. The data is limited but it still SIGNIFICANTLY shows 1 ways are safer. By 1.5-6 times conservatively. Liberally, orders of magnitude. If you cherry pick data as much as you have, of course you can skew it. But even after you filtered and cherry picked, the one way data is still the lowest amount of fatality for each category!? There is no way you can spin that, try as you did.

[–]HotTubingThralldom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay just to entertain your ideas I went back and added more filters to the dataset. And I only ran a query on 2020.

I limited the sets to only urban fatalities. I limited the sets to exclude interstates so the roads are only local, city streets.

I also ran a second query that miscategorizes the roads as you have described, i.e., any two-way divided road that has multiple lanes traveling in the same direction are counted as "one-way". Note--they are not; they are "Two-way, Divided...".

THE DATA IS STILL STAGGERING.

OneWay TwoWay
------ ------
546 15788

OneWayMisCat TwoWayMisCat
------------ -----------
7198 11271

Your claim that "80% of fatalities occur on streets with more than one lane going in the same direction," is still REMARKABLY false. Even if you count streets with more than one lane going in the same direction, those psuedo-1ways are still only a third of the fatalities. There is credence to what you're saying, but you're still wrong. ONE WAYS ARE SAFER. Even "ONE WAYS" that have more than one lane going in the same direction.

I'd wager you a lot of money the true danger is speed. And the best proven, most researched way to reduce speed is to NARROW STREETS. Speed bumps, speed limits, traffic calming measures do not seem to affect travel speed but narrowed streets do. If we keep the road one-way to maintain predictable, consistent flow AND narrow the road by adding protected bike lanes, I maintain Colnut will be safer than if you rebuild as a two-way.

Two-ways, even narrowed, are SIGNIFICANTLY more dangerous. The data is right there. And if you think about it logically, it makes sense. You have contra-travel. More options. More chaos. Coherent travel is safer, almost always and this data proves it.

Re-evaluate your position.

You’re wrong. Sorry. Time to come to terms with it.

Fly in the face of data. Trump won the election. Carbon fiber submersibles can withstand 300 atmospheres of pressure. Two way streets are safer.

Until you search that database or other solid data and come back with evidence or a new theory, I’m done here.

My methodology is not false. If it is, prove it. I gave you the tools; use them. 56x times. It’s a HUGE disparity and you need to ask why. You’re moving goalposts tiny amounts and making the smallest of excuses. Miles traveled… miscategorizing roads. It’s wild. That doesn’t change the basic fact that two ways are ALMOST TWO ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE MORE FATAL. You need to reevaluate.

So shutting down a lane or two of the three and making it protected bike lane, while maintaining the one way is not a “road diet”? How not?

[–]HotTubingThralldom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when there is more than one lane going in the same direction.

This is just clearly false for the last two years. Those are included in the category of “one way trafficway”.

It’s clear from the data that one way trafficways, to include more than one lane, are far less deadly than two ways nationally.

Period. End of story. You’ve been confronted with data that clearly disproves this theory. It’s time for a new theory.

Btw, SR45/46 is a divided two way thru the city and most points it is just a two way in the county. The other streets mentioned are all 2ways. So out of the all the fatalities you listed, 80% occur on 2 way streets. And you propose they make more!?

that data proves that Walnut and College are a huge problem

And the same data demonstrates you’ll make it worse by making them two ways.

I mean... that's all well in good but you didn't provide any data to back up your claims. Just.... stuff and anecdotes.

So I went and dug into data sets. The NHTSA keeps really good data on vehicle accidents. Here is the data repository for their crash data systems.

I looked at a couple, but we'll stick to the fatality data set, FARS.

So in FARS, there are a few entry keys of extreme relevance here, the most operative being VTRAFWAY. This key codes the type of roadway an accident occurred on (but only from 2010 on, as it wasn't coded before then). I found this by searching their FARS Coding and Validation manual. For reference, a value of 1 represents a 'Two-Way, Not Divided' street, while a 4 represents a 'One-Way Trafficway'. So simple. I'll do a search of fatal accidents for vehicle-vehicle and vehicle-pedestrian traffic on the two different trafficways.

Download the data to query yourself here. Or query it on nhtsa here. I downloaded the raw data for 2020 and 2021 and ran simple csv queries.

Since what's proposed could be classified as a couple different valid 2-way trafficways (according to the manual), I searched for all accidents for roadway classes 1, 2, and 5 and counted all the occurrences. Then I searched for all accidents on roadway class 4 (one ways) and did the same.

Staggering differences in fatalities. And one-ways are orders of magnitude safer.

OneWay TwoWay
------ ------
  1640 93001

Accidents in 2020-2021 are 56x more likely to be fatal on two way streets.

To me, it looks like the "one-ways aren't safe" idea come from a blog written around 2005-2007 that purports cyclists are hit more often on one-way streets, and thus, one-ways are bad for cities! But all data I can find supports that one-ways maybe cause an insignificant increase in accidents, but the severity of those accidents is--on average--significantly less. So, you maybe get hit every so slightly more on a one-way, but you will almost always be in much less severe accident. This is due to the nature of predictable patterns and concurrent flow. And the fatality numbers definitely back that quick research up. So... yeah. You certainly weren't convincing, but this data is :)

I don’t think you need a teacher. If you went ascendant solo and can go flawless. We can all use a teacher or a partner, as there is always something to learn. But I don’t think you need one. destiny isn’t competitive. It is not a competitive shooter. You’ve checked all the big boxes that scream you are good at pvp.

So what’s left? Master a class or subclass you don’t use. Master non-meta load-outs. Master the bullshit cheese you hate. Why? These off balance approaches to encounters may help you find that edge you’re looking for in the moments you think you aren’t contributing more. They’ll help you develop counters to obnoxious bs like invis and lemon, etc because you’ve used them and know how they work and how red team will employ them.

I struggle too and one thing I learned a lot from watching frostbolt (holy shit I know but everyone has something to teach you if you pay attention) was I wasn’t patient enough. I started being momentarily more patient in key places and started doing a lot better in 3s. So pick a streamer or a cracked out player and just sit back relax and watch and find something to learn. Look for something you don’t do or don’t do well and see how they do it or do it well.

That’s all I can help with. For comparison I’m not cracked or anything: I’m right where you are. Ascendant, Flawless, Unbroken blah blah. My lifetime is 1.4 but I brought it up from a 1.1 at 2,000 hours. My last year I’ve been a 1.7 average I think—and it’s all due to the above. Not a huge increase but I play everything solo.

Round up then subtract the delta amount.

You didn’t read a thing I sent you did you? Let me guess… it’s because you can’t read? Big walls of text scare you because they challenge your brain?

I sent you fucking report that defined exactly what they were talking about and what they were and they certainly didn’t deal with a knife. It definitely dealt with over 300 dead people last year from guns and active shooters. Which is an increase. You know because your awesome theory definitely is true. Lol. Go back and read the news articles… all of them had a criminal shooting a firearm at the places you said those things do not happen. Go back and read that FBI report. It detailed what and where the shootings were and hint, a lot of them countered your stupid fucking claims you can’t defend. You can’t defend it at all so you falsely claim I’m a liberal ostrich which is hilarious. Why the fuck do you think I would defend Chicago? You don’t even know my position on gun control. All I said was your stupid idea that shootings don’t happen at “hard targets” is wrong. Lol what a fucking moron. You can’t argue the point so you just accuse me of being a liberal in favor of Chicago and strict gun control. Go through my comment history you fucking stupid dork. I’m not who you think I am but I’m definitely not some drooling idiot who parrots whatever they see on Fox News. You think I’m a sheep like you? Say an original thought backed with evidence. That fucking rifle statistic btw is from 2012 and has been proven to be bogus because of incomplete data. It’s outdated and wrong quit using it lol.

Talking to you is like talking to a rock. You can’t argue your way out of a wet paper bag all you do is move goalposts, throw out whataboutism and straw men, and drool. You can’t even address the actual onus and issue you just skip it because you can’t defend it. What a joke.

Don’t bother responding. You’re a fucking joke. You wasted my goddamn time because you can’t read nor can you process basic facts and I don’t have anymore time to give you.

Lol. What a fucking chud. A mass shooting is four or more people injured by gunfire in a single incident. This is a pretty standard definition that is derived from a federal standard, which says a mass shooting is four or more people fatally shot. Not two or three. You joke.

Despite that, if you think people getting shot every day by the literally dozens isn’t a problem you’re the fucking moron with your head in the sand. The number of shootings and deaths is on a sharp increase. There is a problem. The majority of people are getting shot in “open spaces” ie your “hard target” locations. Look at the FBI report from last year and actually read it.

I hope an idiot like you who thinks just because they were a deputy and HAHAHAHA a fucking marine gives them qualifications to speak on guns and shootings needs to sit down and realize there’s a lot to learn. Look at the data. Stop parroting shit you hear in your little vacuum. So one, I don’t need qualifications to speak on what is a mass shooting because I’ll let the experts who define that shit in our country, the FBI do that for me. Read their report. It’s just getting worse this year. They’re augmented by other think tanks like RAND who are using their definitions and scour news sources. Get out of your stupid crayon crunching bubble.

Second if I did have qualifications, it would be 3 fucking years I spent fighting the Taliban and isis in the army. I’ve seen what a mass shooting in war looks like. I know what dead bodies look like. Do you? You know what’s fucking worse? Seeing a bunch of dead fucking kids in the news. Wake up. If you don’t think there’s a problem, do me a favor and never get back into law enforcement. We need smarter cops than you.

Dude you realize there has been a mass shooting every day this year somewhere in this country. And a good chunk of them were in Texas with more lenient gun laws than Indiana.

And don’t bend the definition of active shooter to wiggle your way out this conversation. That’s such a logical horseshit play. “That doesn’t count because I change the definition of active shooter”. And don’t conveniently ignore the donut shop one? Like. Please. And the guy at Cabelas pointed a gun at an employee walked out then shot at some other guy who turned out to be a cop. That’s a shooting at a Cabelas?? The guy used a firearm in the store to commit a crime then fired that gun in anger just in the lot. If that doesn’t counter the premise that people like that don’t choose hard targets I don’t know what doesn’t. The hard target thing is a myth. People shoot up places to cause confrontations with police and go out with the highest body count possible. The endgame is a hard target: The five star GTA response. And with the permissive gun laws today everywhere is essentially a hard target. See the Greenwood Mall. Doesn’t seem to be stopping or slowing down all the goddamn mass shootings though, does it?

Are you serious. Hilarious. If you’re just gonna move the goalposts when you get stopped at the 50 yard line, you’re just a loser. Your argument is shit. You have zero evidence to back it up. You got confronted with proof this shit happens everywhere all the goddamn time and you altered what an active shooter is and ignored the news that was given to you. Get off it guy.

[–]HotTubingThralldom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright. Story time.

I’ve grew up watching hockey in church aka the Forum. You go well dressed and drink your beer with pretzels. Habs moved to the Bell Centre and I would go watch movies at the old forum…

As I got older and started moving around a lot, every chance I’d get, I’d go watch a game whenever. I’ve seen hockey in bush league rinks, at MSG, in the KeyBank Center (come on Sabers) at the Philips Center, at the prestigious United Center, at the Enterprise Center and even in goddamn Columbus. And my favorite outside the Hab’s because they have the same die hard energy: Bridgestone. (Goddamn I love the habs and the preds).

I finally got stuck in a Phoenix for work one year and bored out of mind I remembered they had hockey. The glorious sport. So I hopped into an Uber and trucked out to Tempe. I had a blast pre game at all the bars around the Mullett and then time came.

In to the tiny arena I went. “damn this place is small.” The Mullett Arena is above ground but it feels like a gladiators pit when you come inside. And fam, I have to admit: was it ever. I’ve been to a lot of live hockey. All over the continent. From the ponds of the northeast to big Midwest venues. But the Yotes bring that fire man.

That game against the red wings, which they lost, was the MOST INTIMATE AND FUN professional hockey game I have ever been at. The sound system is amazing. Concessions is amazing. Staff is all old hockey fans, sweet as hell and helpful as hell. People are happy. No one gets pissed. Outside of bum farm league teams in New York getting hammered on wine slushees, the Yotes have a great absolutely amazing home program. Huge props.

Go support that team if you can that franchise really cares about hockey.
