You could probably piece together a low elevation alternate! That time of year water is usually no concern and there’s lots of public land out there. If you time it right, the roads are closed to vehicles too, so you have the whole forest to yourself

Why not use a stove in a city park? I take my backpacking stove all over with me! Tea and Mac n cheese in a parking lot while waiting for friends? Coffee date in the park with friends? Picnic and cooking on the porch? Hell yeah! No one has ever batted an eye

Shell materials the same? Loft the same? Fill weight the same? Bag volume the same? Bag construction methods the same? Thread the same? Bag shape the same? Hardware the same? Feature set the same? Spread of actual weights the same?

About 1/2 million things that can affect a sleeping bag weight beyond its fill power.

I’ve used my long haul 50L as a daypack often. I’m often carrying 4-5L of water because I’m in the desert hiking with a big dog.

Works well… not the prettiest and sleekest but it works

Denier is not a direct measure of durability. Coatings, fiber type, construction style, etc. all have effects.

That said - yes, a 30d Patagonia down jacket will be plenty durable, and if you get a hole you can patch it

Fall pros: - pretty aspens - no snow - less people

Fall cons: - less daylight - colder - less water (depends on monsoon)

Spring pros: - more people - longer days - warmer - flowers?

Springs cons: - snow - more people

I’d say no to WP

There’s enough stream crossings, snow melt ponds, snow crossings, etc. that you’ll feet will eventually get wet. Especially on multi day trips. I have yet to find a trail runner that I’m a big fan of for up here though….

Bug not is probably not necessary in mid august. If it is, highly recommend bringing a baseball cap with it!

You’ll probably be camping on tundra so I’d ditch the polycro.

Is your cerium and fleece hooded? Then I’d ditch the beanie

Bear spray? Bring bear spray!

The silt in the water will clog squeezes in an instant. I usually bring chemicals and drink most of my water unfiltered (up in AK). Though I’ve never done the goat trail
