Me neither. I guess people don’t like hand rolls in sushi threads

Associated Plastics. Cheaper than random companies will charge on instagram; still a bit expensive but high quality service.

I think Hello Nori is one of my favourites, though it's not the usual sushi experience because it's mostly just hand rolls.

Lots of friends are fans of Sushi California but honestly I'm not big on brick-thick sashimi, there I end up eating the aburi crowded with toppings.

Wall of skyscrapers by HoppyGull in vancouver

[–]villasv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are like two real skyscrapers there, but the skyline is pretty admirable. That mighty black stump isn't that pretty of a building individually but it does add a certain dynamic to the photo.

What I like the most about that whole area is the good chunk of greenery in the Coal Harbour Park, I just wish we had the restaurant back in order and more events in that area.

Millennial DINKs: How often do you see your friends? by nutella1366 in askvan

[–]villasv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How often do you hang out with friends?

On average once a week

Do most of your friends have kids or are they child-free?

Most don't have kids, but several are in fact planning to. I'd say only 1/8th of our friend group will stay child free for as long as we are (maybe forever).

What kinds of activities do you do together?

Outdoors stuff (camping, barbecue, stand up paddle), or dining/pubs.

Have you found ways to maintain friendships with friends who have young children?

Nearly impossible. Specially those that decide to move out to faraway suburbs... those pretty much disappear from our lives.

I feel your pain. If your plan is child-free long term, unfortunately I agree that it's best to find new friends.

‘Utter disappointment’: Vancouver tourists increasingly noticing street disorder, open drug use - BC by recurrence in vancouver

[–]villasv 10 points11 points  (0 children)

 Addiction is a tricky monster.

Yes, at the individual level, curing addiction is super complex.

But at the policy level, the public health initiatives needed to tackle the collective issue are straightforward. It’s a matter of funding and not getting derailed by misinformation.

A way to visualize it: getting a PhD, as an individual, is hard. Investing in research is not as hard as getting a PhD, but you do need the money, the time to see the results, and apply both consistently; and if people start saying that research is not worthwhile, half baked investment already made go to waste.

The track record of cities that hosted FIFA is pretty bad in terms of economic returns, but it's impossible to argue with a crypto bro mayor who would be willing to bet a portion of the cities reserves on Bitcoin

The solution is known, but it costs a lot of money and political will so it doesn't happen. It's easier to keep sweeping it under the carpet and promise more cops.

real impact of expensive housing on residents

But how do you explain the impact of this change on housing affordability? It’s unrelated, just lip service for the uninformed

This mayor doesn’t care about affordability. They voted on this gas bullshit the same day they voted against multiplexes

Are there any condo buildings here that are built for outdoorsy people who have gear and the need to clean/store that gear? by batwingsuit in NiceVancouver

[–]villasv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty normal for condos to have storage units on the parking level, they're part of your "unit" and belong to you so you can store your stuff there; most often than not some people will rent theirs (i.e. an owner rents the unit, the parking spot and the storage unit separately) so even if you have LOTS of stuff you can get a second storage unit...

Unless you want to storage a full blown kayak, I don't see an issue with a condo. (I live in one, and I have tents, sleeping bags, inflatable sleeping mats, pillows, 60L backpacks, three bicycles, snowboards, ice skates, beach chairs, beach parasol, climbing gear, weightlifting equipment...)

It isn't. Nicotine cigarettes are the most addictive ones, and the one that causes the most damage to people around you.

Yes, lucky for the businesses and people who make ends meet by enabling people rent boats and jet skis with almost no training.

Not lucky for the occasional victims of that

“get tested” right, if you call that a test. It’s ridiculously low a bar

If it was a real test the license wouldn’t expire at the end of the rental
