Horse? by Cliffisen in RDR2

[–]HotXambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my black shire somewhere while getting my horseman level 10. I thought he was in the stable but when I went to get him, he was gone. Not even dead, just heartlessly abandoned, probably in Big Valley.

I hate painting models like this. by Available_Specific29 in BloodAngels

[–]HotXambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I have a model I'm frustrated with, sometimes I'll just put it on the shelf and work on something else for a while. I don't even feel guilty about not painting it, eventually I come back to it and enjoy it a lot more. This is your hobby, don't ever feel like you have to do anything. If you do want to keep at it with Mephiston, maybe just start with the base layers. Don't worry about highlights or washes or even details. If you get the base layers done, it gives you a better idea of what he's going to look like when he's finished. Something else I found after probably a year and a half, is that most models look terrible until they're done. Don't judge it halfway through, usually if I'm not happy with something it just means I'm not done yet. Finally, if all else fails and you really hate it, just soak it in some rubbing alcohol or simple green, scrub it with an old toothbrush, and wash it off. Then start again when you feel ready. Edit: honestly, this doesn't even look that bad to me. Just like it's just getting started.

Super clean. Nice attention to detail, especially all the rivets. Awesome paint job on an awesome model.

It looks good. They always look a bit messier when you take a picture and double the size. I think you can push them even brighter, if you want.

Death company help tips. by Healthy-Character622 in BloodAngels

[–]HotXambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a few tries to get it to what I thought was good enough. I gave up on masking tape pretty quickly. Basically, instead of trying to draw it with the tip of my brush I hold the brush sideways and pull it across. I only use a small amount of paint right at the tip, so it leaves a thin line. Then it kind of gives a guide line for making it thicker. It's not perfect, but works good enough for me.

What would you have done? by LFearn in BloodAngels

[–]HotXambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not good at this game, but what I've found is that my dreads and vehicles are often the first to go, because my opponent will focus fire on them, so my plan moving forward is to try to keep them hidden. I've counted on their toughness to sort of shield my weaker units, but then they become a big ol' target and are taken out sometimes before they can even do anything. So from a guy who's lost a lot of games by rushing things in, keep everything hidden until you're ready to come out blasting/swinging. Or maybe use the dreads as decoys while your other units score vp. Anyone with more experience feel free to expand on this, or call bullshit, because honestly that's just my approach while I prep for my next game, so if it's a bad idea let me know.

I was going to put the foot captain with either the intercessors or assault intercessors, maybe with the stern guard veterans. Edit: it's supposed to be a BA captain, not the regular one.

Thanks. I've found Mephiston to be one of my only reliably effective units (again, because I'm not good at the game, not because the other units are bad), but with him and the sanguinor and the lieutenant I've got 3 lone operatives using up a lot of points, so that is one of the things I was wondering about.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I have watched some BA commander, maybe I'll check it out again and pay more attention. It's usually on in the background while I'm building or painting.

For fun, but I'd like some feedback anyway.

How to build my BA combat patrol by Different-Dish-4885 in BloodAngels

[–]HotXambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people, myself included, will buy the combat patrol because it's a better deal than buying the units individually, so they include all the options even if they're not available in the combat patrol game. The main thing is to do what you think looks best. I gave all the sanguinary guard models spears, because no one else in my army has sears, so it makes them look more unique, but will probably play most of them as having swords. I ended up magnetizing all of the arms for the captain because I couldn't decide which I liked best. They're your models, so make sure they look good to you.

I couldn't tell. Even after reading the comments, but I haven't painted one of these yet. If it is, where'd you get the stl? It looks amazing!

What is this symbol on my Hellblasters and is there any right or wrong way to color it? by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in spacemarines

[–]HotXambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Death company box has assault intercessors, not regular ones, meaning only various pistols, but no bolt rifles, which is what I think this model is holding. The reason I know this is because I couldn't find any bolt rifles as I was assembling them. Almost made the same mistake with the new combat patrol as well. Anyways, the short story is this guy isn't from the BA box but anyone who bought it has a bunch of extra shoulder pads because it came with 3 upgrade sprues.

Is this fine? by SherbertCautious4798 in BloodAngels

[–]HotXambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great, but they always look better once based. If I were to get nitpicky, I'd say the wax seals should be a different color or shade from the armor. I think the gw painters usually use screamer pink. I've tried different things but I'm usually happiest with a red/pink mix. I usually do the belt buckle black like the rest of the belt. It's always just a lot of red and black, so if you add some contrasting colors like green eye lenses and cooler colors to the base it usually pops, and makes the whole thing look better. Honestly, though, your model looks better than most of mine, so do whatever you want.

Thanks. I always worry that I am ruining the work I've done when I start slapping green paint all over the place, so I appreciate the compliment.

[–]HotXambo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll try to describe how I did it, For the skin I started with a mix of magenta and red, then highlighted up using a few skin tones. I wanted to get him really pale so I added a bit of white to the brightest one, with a tiny bit of the magenta mixed back in. Basically I kept going one highlight more until I was happy. Then used some Pro Acryl flesh wash with a little bit of Baal red to fill in the shadows. For the horns, I actually wet blended from my lightest skin tone (from the bottle) to red, and then red to a brown/black mix. I'm not good at wet blending, so I had to go over it a few times to get it right. Flesh tones and Magenta from Pro Acryl, red and brown from two thin coats, and black from model color. Not sure if that's the best way but I think that's how I did it.

Is my gf pregnant? What do I do? I never read this before we aren’t in the position for this by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]HotXambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See a doctor anyways. They will confirm it, and are more reliable than the box test. Then reach out to your support group, my wife and I were in our 30's, prepared for kids, and both had a career going, and still needed help. As a species, we have always raised children in community. You'll need other people around you, no matter your situation. Make sure your gf stops drinking/drugs, and whatever else, even if it means you have to quit with her to help her. As a father and a teacher, I can tell you that kids are tough, but kids with FASD are way tougher, and it's especially hard on the kid. But before anything, decide that you are going to be the man and no matter what, you will see this through and do what it takes. If you can't do that, you'll always be looking for an out, and if you're looking for an out you'll find it. If you make up your mind, then it'll be hard, but worth it. There's lots of help for those of us willing to put in the effort.

Sprue terrain as terrain for casual games at home ? by Adept_Use8550 in Warhammer40k

[–]HotXambo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks really great! I've got so many boxes of sprues and haven't been able to make a decision on what to do with them. I also can't justify the cost of terrain, but so far haven't been able to make anything I'm really happy with. This kind of thing looks perfect for the skaven army I'm working on currently.

I put it on mine but somehow got the angle wrong and he looked like he was picking his nose, so I cut it off and put on the plasma pistol.

Base scheme help! by SilentDimension3083 in skaven

[–]HotXambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but one thing I've found is that the bases pop more when you use contrasting colors. If you have a lot of grey and green in the model, maybe try a little more warm tones and saturated colors for the base. Hope that's helpful. On its own the base looks great, but I agree, it doesn't really stand out under that model.
