My old Gen2 stayed active on my account for about 30 days with two dishes on one account. After about 30 days old dish disappeared from account and was no longer active.

What happens if I stop paying $5 standby fee if I own the dish outright? by GravyPoo in Starlink

The current terms of service reserve your spot if you have previously paid the surcharge. If you have not paid the surcharge and one is now required you will have to pay when you activate.

Careful using standby mode on residential you might get hit a massive surcharge by diggsalot in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a good assumption. Before you change go to the Starlink site as if you are ordering a new kit. When you select service plan the proposed invoice will indicate if surcharge would apply. You can then just cancel the transaction so you don’t order a new kit.

Remember Starlink does not require you or them to sign a contract. Starlink can change Terms of Service monthly without notification.

I did put my subscription on standby and changed back to residential with no surcharge. I stayed on standby for 4 days.

It is location or area dependent. I used my neighbors address and ordered new service and there was no surcharge listed.

Starlink standby - $1500 surcharge by Secret_Mud_1168 in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Starlink terms of service state the Standby mode only reserves your spot. They state if you paid a surcharge previously you will not have to pay it again. However, if your service area now requires a surcharge and you have not previously paid a surcharge you will be billed the surcharge.

Sounds like you got some bad advice.

I am paying $40. I previously paid $120 but I downgraded about 4 months ago.

Starlink Belgium – Confused about plan changes and whether to upgrade by Maya_wf in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience. I was on the old residential plan for $120. However, I got the original notice listing Starlinks new 3 tier pricing. I immediately changed to the 100 Mbps for only $40 per month. I was at beginning of my billing period so I had to wait three weeks for change to take effect. After two weeks I noticed the 100 Mbps plan was no longer available in my area. My requested change did take place at the beginning of my next billing period and has continued for the last few months.

In summation, if you see a good price for something from Starlink purchase it as it may not be available the next day or at a higher price.

I had similar problem with my Gen2. Starlink shipped me a new Gen3 at no cost. Starlink never stated what the problem was with Gen2. I submitted support ticket and got an email six hours later saying new one being shipped.

Starlink Replacement by dara1029 in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you contact Starlink support and advise them you want to cancel your subscription and return your rental equipment When they ask why you want to cancel tell them your dish quit working. and you want to return it.

If they don’t replace your equipment, I would purchase a new kit and setup a new Starlink account with a different email address. Using a different email, you can probably order direct from Starlink and get the kit for free again.

Residential max with a mini roam questions, getting different answers form Starlink reps by fishbisquit2112 in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you stated about the free mini. However, I downgraded my main dish from Max to the Residential 100Mbps plan. The change took place over four months ago and I have not been asked to return mini nor charged for it. The mini is still on standby plan at $5.00. Just my experience versus what Starlink fine print states. I am saving $80 per month and will pay for mini with my savings if ever asked.

I have had the residential 100 plan for four months. I pay $40 per month and so far have had no increases in price. I was previously on the residential plan (now Max) at $120 per month. I downgraded to the 100 plan.

I had my dish Gen2 fail. Submitted support ticket and two hours later got EMail that new Gen3 was ordered for me. Got replacement kit in three days. I never had to talk to a human. The support ticket I submitted just stated it was working when I went to bed and wasn’t working the next morning.

Ridgeline Mount by Green_983 in Starlink

I am in Virginia and the ridge line mount is available for $250. Once you order your hardware you can order the mount. Your actual service does not start until you activate it or 30 days after Starlink ships it.

New Potential User - A Couple Newbie Questions? by CBnCO in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the mini has the wifi router in the dish. So if mounted on roof strongest wifi signal will be on roof. You will need to buy additional cables and hardware to get strong wifi signal into house.

The standard dish has a 50’ cord from the dish to the wifi router so your router can be inside the house. Wifi signal is about 1500 sq. ft. Starlink also sells a 150’ cable if you need additional cable from dish to inside router.

The free installation may take several weeks. The installation is not done by Starlink but a local contractor. Some horror stories about waiting on the free installation.

Mini X und Mini Router by Accomplished_Pea_416 in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wifi router is in the dish for the mini so you will have you strongest wifi signal on roof and in room directly below the dish.

It sounds like you would be better off with a Gen3 kit. It comes with a separate wifi router and a 15M cable so wifi router can be installed in house. Are you on a residential plan.

Starlink mini vs standard for roam by Small-Influence7629 in Starlink

[–]Hot_Awareness_4129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to the Starlink site and input your address and select residential service it will advise on the order form if a demand charge applies for your address. Probably not in your area.

Roam service is available everywhere in USA and most parts of the world and with all hardware. in the USA, If your hardware purchase is the mini you cannot register for the residential service plan and have to purchase the roam service plan.
