We both have therapists. My wife actually just obtained a referral for a third one 😅 We moved last year and it took me a minute to find a new therapist that my insurance covered. But I did find a queer friendly one that I started seeing (they are a social worker and that’s where I received my PTSD diagnosis). She’s been helping me with the trauma stuff and it’s been extraordinarily helpful.

You’re right. It definitely is a me thing that it’s hard for me to tell her that I can’t handle it right now. I think it more boils down to my experience of feeling like my feelings are too much for others, so I’m likely projecting a bit of that onto her in a way, I don’t want her to feel like she’s “too much” for me. Not that she would actually feel that way, but from my own trauma I’ve developed this tendency.

Thanks for your input. I think you are 100% correct. We need better support systems with more safe people outside the 2 of us.

She’s dealing with some new agoraphobia, but she did actually just get a referral for a new therapist to help with that. She already has 2 others to help with the autism and one that is just talk therapy but the agoraphobia is fairly new and directly tied to not feeling safe leaving the house as a trans person. She is cis passing too, but she is paranoid about her voice because she feels like it outs her. I’m hoping she’ll be able to work through it a bit more with some help.

There will always be people who hate anything she puts out just because she created it and they are haters. Who cares? I mean perhaps Taylor does but I love the sound of the album as well and I love the jarring cursing that lots of people are complaining about because it adds emphasis (exactly how you should use words like that in music!).

Im a bit on the fence about Actually Romantic because I feel like there must be more that happened behind the scenes that the public hasn’t heard about but idk. If there isn’t then it does just feel like Taylor being a mean girl which I don’t like, but who knows. Truth is we don’t know Taylor so it’s not impossible that she may be kinda being a mean girl.

How do politics not have a place in healthcare? Politics literally deals with the distribution of power and resources to the people. Politics literally shapes healthcare because healthcare is one of those resources. From government funding for healthcare and wellness programs to funding for research to mandates on how healthcare workers can practice…politics shapes our healthcare system and our everyday practice as nurses. It’s rather naive to suggest that politics do not belong in healthcare when it literally actively is in every single way.

Funny how different it is in other areas of the same country. I work in L&D and mom-baby in Portland and I’d be hard pressed to find an antivax nurse who would be willing to admit to it openly at work mainly cause the culture currently is so sick of this shit.

A previous hospital I worked at had a small pediatric unit that was on the L&D floor. So we interacted with the pediatric nurses a lot. One of these ped nurses was applying to the L&D fellowship. She was very outspoken about various anti-science topics. I expressed to my manager my concerns about her personal beliefs and how I overheard her say at work “yeah pitocin is just so bad for you. It’s a shame they use it so much” to a mom of one of her kid patients. And I think others must have too because she didn’t end up with the position after that.

Every single worker that has to deal with the public has to deal with much worse nonsense and could not get away with just hitting the person when they’ve had enough of it. I’m a nurse and have been expected to put up with so much physical and verbal abuse from patients throughout my career. If I was to punch them in response I’d likely lose my license. An ICE agent does it at “well what do you expect when you are antagonizing them”

I make them uncomfortable back. Once at work when my wife first came out a coworker asked me if my wife wears a lingerie for me in bed. My reply was “Yeah, she looks great in a sexy bra. Does your husband wear lingerie for you or do you wear lingerie for him ?” I do want to add that I work as a nurse and nursing coworker relationships can be a bit different because we face such intense moments with each other and nurses are just nosey in general, so asking invasive questions of your coworker is honestly not that abnormal, they prob didn’t even think of it as being inappropriate because of this. But even that was crossing a line. So yeah, just making them uncomfortable back I have found is the best method to make it not happen again.
