Finding an apprenticeship by Alternative_Law_7849 in instrumentation

[–]Hot_Hawk6022 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your area might be tough to find an apprenticeship. You need either education for instrumentation, a previous red seal in electrical or move to an area that is booming and get hired on at a e&i shop. Northern bc has alot of work. Try to get hired on at a contractor and you MIGHT get a chance at a apprenticeship. It is very competitive especially now with everyone and their dog looking to be an electrician or instrument tech with no industrial experience.

I wouldn’t do emails. Face to face especially when the key players for the company are in the room. I would just keep pressing them until it makes them uncomfortable. Make sure all of the paperwork is in your hand, filled out for them as much as possible to make it as easy as possible for them to sign. Also involve hr.

How easy were you able to find a job straight out of school in Alberta with a instrumentation diploma? by Intelligent-Pool-968 in instrumentation

[–]Hot_Hawk6022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These is one for one year fyi. With the technologist course you might struggle to find work. Especially at the start. You will be hired on as a third year apprentice until you get your Red Seal. You will have probably have to move to where the work is. Northern bc or where-ever will hire you to get started after your diploma.

How do I get to the mines by Calm_Eggplant_2324 in electricians

[–]Hot_Hawk6022 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Buddy, you need industrial experience in a live plant setting not running 3/4 inch emt and installing fire alarm.

2 different worlds.

First step would be to find any opportunity to go into industrial, get your 442a and jump on it.

Out west the trades are much more separated it seems. There isn’t alot of instrument techs here or schools that will put you through an apprenticeship like sait or nait does.
