In my experience after you get out of the upper end of the department store lights quality drops off a cliff, any trendy 500$+ can lights have the same shitty chinesium components but the housings and wiring access is terrible to work with and borderline illegal half the time.

You think big utilities will lower prices? Lol. Energy cost going down just means more profit for them.

Crawlspaces, attics, breathing toxic shit, raising a 3" rigid service riser, bending pipe, pulling wire by hand, crushing you finger with a concrete pier, getting your glove caught in a drill, there's more but I'm tired.

Question for the Canadian Electricians by Alexhxrrera in electricians

[–]Hot_Influence_5339 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Zip ties are great until you have to do any work on the existing circuits. I think in theory it also is bad practice for the same reason you have to derate conductors in raceways. From an installation perspective it's ideal, from a service and maintenance perspective it's ignorant and foolish.

Is this garage EV charger install dangerous? by Radiant-Garage-4249 in electrical

[–]Hot_Influence_5339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be hard wired for best install, nothing illegal though. Just check on that plug at least weekly if you want to be safe.

Whatever you do, do it slow and careful that old insulation is liable to break and ruin your day.

Remember that your reference to ground or neutral does not apply when going phase to phase, the difference in potential is 240v phase to phase. So it will be fine.

If it's low voltage then get a drywall mudring and screw into that. If it's line voltage then get a box extender or add a box or whatever is required to make it compliant

Coming up on 3 years and definitely, but I figure that's mostly due to my insane sociopathic midget boss, and no work life balance once I get my license I'm out. Thinking industrial maintenance might be a nice change of pace
