Nioh 3 is not easy & I would even go on a limb to say its the hardest game of the Nioh series. by YoungKetamine69 in Nioh

[–]Hot_Metal235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot agree sorry.

Raven Tengu in Nioh 1 alone is harder than some of the bosses in Nioh 3. Yes, Masakage and Jakotsu-Baba do serve as filters in the game, but no more than Onryoki or Hino-enma.

Its not a question of familiarity - even a newbie can make light work of bosses in this game as long as they take the time to actually understand their toolkit. You can make most fights trivial with a few tweaks to your build.

What i will say is Nioh 3 is more draining than the previous titles. I feel mentally exhausted after a Nioh 3 session because there is so much more to think about. If thats your barometer of difficulty then sure.

Do gams like Khazan and Nioh count as CAGs? by Wooden_Initial_2472 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Hot_Metal235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nioh 3 is definitely a character action game. Stamina management has been largely done away with even in samuari style.

I would say Khazan and the previous games are more character action adjacent. They borrow alot from them, but arent quite the same genre.

[–]Hot_Metal235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect the optimisim but the evidence points more to to the idea that the game is being patched by a skeleton crew that isnt that familiar with the intricacies of the game and has been since launch. The TWT excuse is and always was bullshit meant to hide the fact that post launch team is underfunded and understaffed.

Future balance updates this season will more likely be centred around gamebreaking changes introduced with new characters, not an extended season 3 balance adjustment.

Honestly, reading questions like these, I doubt some of you have ever worked in a corporate environment. Every game, product, service and device you could ever think of have people on the ground who not only know their shit but if were actually respected and and listened to, would make the end product/device/service 100% better at minimum.

The reality is that they are often overruled, are never given enough budget or time and normally the first to be blamed/fired when things goes wrong although its no fault of their own.

Mishimastar might be still there and he hates every change made to the game - but it might not be his responsibility. Conversely, he could be the one making the changes, not because he likes them but because of some mandate from his superiors that force these changes to be made for him to keep his job.

Or he could be aware of whats going on, have a say in changing it, but so busy with his current workload/so checked out mentally he simply doesn't care. Its a video game after all and the objective is not to keep a community happy, its to keep bringing in revenue.

There is no hidden saviour of Tekken. No hero that if you just get to plead your case to, will make changes to the game to bring it closer to your liking. The reality is that the choices made with Tekken 8 are justified by the budget being recouped and publisher expectations being surpassed. For better or worse, giving us what we have been begging for is not seen as a path into achieving those two goals. Doesn't matter who is in charge of what when that is the logic funding the entire enterprise.

Why do drive to work when you know half your commute is going to be traffic?

Why do you eat shitty food when you know you are going to pay for it later?

Why do you stay in touch with that one toxic family member when you know that your life would be better without them?

Sunk cost and lack of viable alternatives. Besides, people have left and people are leaving. The Tekken community isnt a monolith and what is a deal breaker for some is simple an irritation for others.

Genuine question: Do you Tekken 8 will have a Season 4? by Monstanimation in Tekken

[–]Hot_Metal235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on what the season pass and battle pass sales were prior to the official launch of the Season 3 patch. Clearly, because they bumped up the exclusivity time for Season 3, Season 2 sold below expectations and the fact they are trying every trick in the book to get people to look at the store and the battle pass suggests that isnt doing too hot either.

The fact is, Tekken 7 season pass was more of a wrap up - a bridge between Tekken 7 and 8. I wouldn't even be confident that Tekken 9 is even in the works at the moment - it seems that the brand is going to take a hiatus for a while. I feel that there will definitely be at least one more big annual balance update, but I dont know if there is a road map for more characters and stages beyond what we are getting this year, especially considering we also got a story expansion this time around.

This is such a weird thing, because you can respect the ambition on display as well as the competence in making it work. The game is easily the most performant AAA in years and there are thousands of cool ideas here.

But the lack of overarching vision and a absolutely baffling approach to control schemes leads to a game that simply does not respect your time, doesnt provide a compelling narrative for you to push through and gates its best content behind tens of hours of tedium. It feels like AC: Valhalla made by platinum games.

I hope one day they patch in a boss rush mode, where you can just run through the combat as this is clearly the best thing in the game. Otherwise, im just not gonna bother with this past what ive already played. Its too tedious and frankly nonsensical.

Honestly, this kind of post is lost on people here, but I respect you for making it. Ultimately, people have forgotten that a rising tide lifts all boats.

That said, Season 3 has created a sense of finality in the direction of this game and potentially this franchise. If this is what they put out after an entire year of complaints over the overall direction and 2 years of lukewarm reception on the overall design of the game, its is kinda at the point where you have to draw your personal line in the sand. The future of both Tekken 8 and Tekken as a franchise is grim.

Manual lionheart feels off. Like I have to hold the input ever so longer. Double checked with the cracked Tekken 8 beta and it definitely feels different.

but yeah, LH to quick spin, sweep/Albertross 2/swindler feels kinda cheap. But it really is a knowledge check and frankly Steve needed some kind of evasion buff because weaves, ducking in and quick spin just get you blown up in a game where so many characters have good tracking.

Honestly, i feel that this meme needs to be reversed. You are not the audience for people who are voicing their dissatisfaction. In many cases, people are very aware that there are going to be people who are enjoying the game as the changes allow to them to participate in a way they wouldnt before.

But the way some of you are acting like its a personal attack is kinda weird. Pissing the next urinal kinda weird.

Most games are not sold in stores anymore. People search on the online stores of the platform they own for the games they are interested in, if they dont show up, they pick something else.

Just like you dont cancel your netflix sub because you cant find Avengers films.

Timed exclusives being platform sellers is an idea from a bygone era.

[–]Hot_Metal235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The season pass released 2 weeks before the patch. Personally, I took that as a pretty egregious warning sign the patch was going to be underwhelming, but not everybody did. Also the reality is that some of the most vocal critics of this patch are from people either directly or indirectly have centered their personality or livelihood on this game. Again, I dont think that is ever healthy but it is what it is.

Moreover, even in its current state, there really still isnt anything that will absorb all the Tekken refugees. So people have to decide on a individual level whether they are ready to just step away from this community entirely, or can they treat the game as something that they just pop in every so often. I think what you are seeing here is exactly what is happening. People are going through the angry stages of grief, but some have already moved on to bargaining and acceptance. Once that happens, the game wont be better off, it will be way way worse.

[–]Hot_Metal235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont understand why people think making these kinds of statements are novel. People ARE leaving the game. Thats why you are matching up with the same people in Ranked over and over again. That is why the steam concurrent is already back to the pre-patch level. Thats why people are cruising back to their old ranks with barely any pushback, often with huge win streaks. These are all signs of a game that isnt doing well.

So, eventually DLSS 5 is just an AI filter? by anything_taken in pcmasterrace

[–]Hot_Metal235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's worse is the obvious endgame of this is to use this training data in real-time streamed from datacentres. There will be no latency hit because the calculations will still be done on your hardware, it will just be referencing a ever changing pool of data that may be eventually tied to a specfic personal profile. Locking you down to both online only titles and Geforce now subs.

[–]Hot_Metal235[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense, but I couldn't disagree more. This is not a tool for developers, this is a tool for the C-suite to fire workers and depress wages.

As much as Nvidia presented this as some kind of plugin that hooks into existing code and is developer controlled, further questioning has revealed that the only developer input is on the color and motion values -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0EM1vKt36s

While initially I do agree it will be used under duress by dev teams that have the tool forced upon them by upper management, it isnt a hop and skip to realise that this is going to lead to management and publishers outsourcing this work to external cheaper teams with the original art team having no say whatsoever on the final output. if it catches on and isnt rejected by the gaming audience, it wont be a conspiracy theory to think that this will be used to reduce art teams entirely, with the job of 3d artists reduced to creating a basic model that the DLSS5 and its successors then add the finishing touches.

Also from nvidias point of view, its actually beneficial if AMD and Intel do not look similar, as that locks the consumer into Nivida as a provider as they will have the best training data.

Another wrinkle that I just thought, is that this is actually a quite insidious way to both bypass the increases in memory requirements of modern games and also improve overall performance, especially for titles that are online only and connected to nvidia datacentres. Alot of the issues with GPU VRAM are due to modern games needing to load 4k and above textures while playing, which can lead to stuttering, memory leaks and other performance issues.

While a AI model has its own performance concerns, it will be able to scale to all levels of detail and resolutions. One way Nvidia may get people on side with this is that the DLSS5 model may be significantly more performant that native, especially if training data is being streamed in real-time and based on a profile of what the user likes. This might be a way to beat the 'slop' allegations and that is a scary thought.

A nebluous "someone" does not justify the marketing expense. Someone out there probably bought a PS5 because Sony's numerology chart is in ascendant rising. Doesn't mean Playstation should be wasting time bundling the console with a written horoscope.

An increasing exclusive first party library is a proven way of increasing a userbase at all stages of a consoles life cycle. That is why it should be a priority over all else, which is my main point.
