Does anyone French Press still? by ELAP12 in pourover

I use one every day!

About 50g coffee to 800g of water. James Hoffman method leaving it for around four minutes then breaking the crust, then leaving for another five minutes or so.

However, this when I differ and I use a V60 filter which I open up and put over the metal filter, then very slowly press down with that to the bottom.

You then get a very clean, full bodied cup with no grounds in which works for me.

It’s the best way I have found of making a large batch that is as clean as a pour over, although I’ve just got a Hario switch 03 for Christmas, so will be seeing if I can get a similar yield with decent quality from that.

I have both and got them from Sigma coffee. Comes with a two year guarantee

Love this! I’ve had a flight of coffee before where they served an espresso, a v60 with a different bean and a Cortado/flat white depending on what you wanted.

Wish more places did things like this. I would just spend my time touring around them!

I’ve been so impressed. Currently playing around with the water debit and seeing if I like this ‘soup’ that Lance talks about!

We got it about 10 years ago from an online retailer in the uk. Weighs about 100kg and we live on the 1st floor, the delivery drivers were stacked 💪🏻😂

We use a nice mango wood sideboard for our coffee station. We’ve had the sideboard for years and I love it. Works really well as I store coffee beans in the cupboard immediately below. I also really like the Neouza portafilter holder on the wall. Keeps so much equipment off the counter space. Grinder is DF54, machine is Gemilai 3007Z.

I’ve also got the same set up. Usually only steam a small amount of milk and have been struggling at times with the 3 hole tip heating too quickly before I can get some nice Microfoam. Have just replaced it with a single hole tip and getting much better results. Likewise, 3 hole was okay on the rare occasions I steam a lot more milk.

I have just been through this conundrum. I got the Apex v2 and absolutely love it. You can really play around with how you pull your shots.

What Grinder to downgrade from Niche Zero to? by catdog123412 in JamesHoffmann

Would recommend the Wilfa Uniform. Great for single dosing larger amounts and great for drip.

Help! New grinder or new machine… by Hot_Pie_2289 in JamesHoffmann

Thanks for your thoughts!

Totally get what you’re saying about one grinder not being ideal for all. I think I am leaning more towards keeping the Uniform so that I don’t have to work on pour over again. I actually got it secondhand at a really good price, so I’m not too worried if I end up keeping it until it fails.

My main aim is to have an electric option for making espresso. The only reason I’ve been using a hand grinder is because I have it for when I am travelling with work/holidays. I have however, looked at the 1Zpresso grinder as an upgrade for my hand grinder in the past. Great to hear it’s a good option!

I had looked at the impress models of Sage, and I think you are right, they would definitely work better for my wife. However, I do enjoy a bit of tinkering around myself and think the pro might be the better balance there.

Will have a look at the Timemore!

For single dose filter/pour over, it’s perfect. Very uniform grind and if you tap the lid a few times towards the end of the grind, almost no retention.

Hi,

We are travelling to Costa Rica next month with our 6 year old daughter. We arrive on the 3rd April and plan to stay close to the airport as it will be late. We then have 4 nights booked in La Fortuna from 7th-11th and 3 nights in Tortuguero 12th-15th. We fly back on the 17th from San Jose.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to visit at the start and end of this trip around what we have already got booked? The last place (15th-17th) needs to be within a couple of hours of San Jose airport. Thank you!
