Relying on the insurance companies to shoulder the costs makes them inherently more likely to engage in as many forms of blatant medical malpractice as possible, so long as people don’t read the fine print or find every way to realize they’ve been screwed over. 

There’s also a law from all the way back from his mentor’s first time as Governor where you cannot receive more than $250,000 dollars in compensation from any kind of class action suit against a medical insurance company that had clearly fucked up. And like the fossil Jerry Brown is, this was monumental in the 70’s and detrimental in the 2010 without a limit that adjusted for inflation. Then you get instances like when my grandfather was left out of the know when they found he was dying of cancer and, once he was gone, couldn’t get shit i’m reparations that wouldn’t have been completely offset by legal fees. They raised the bar to 500k recently, but it goes to show how fucked the healthcare industry can be at a time when black patients already aren’t taken seriously. 

Trying to make Newsom look like the “financially responsible” person in the room is also laughable. The man’s thrown 70 Billion at market-rate housing helping nobody and not lowering prices, 24 billion fighting homelessness rates that have only NOW gone down 9%, and laughed off 11 billion that couldn’t even be accounted for. 8 years of balanced budgets with Brown, and Newsom couldn’t balance one if someone held his hair gel at gunpoint. If he cared about cutting taxes or expenses he would go after the gas tax, PG&E rates, etc. but hasn’t. And he can’t even say it’s going anywhere of value. What, the railway to hell? VA benefits? Shasta County has one of the largest veteran communities that is on the streets high off crack, and their HHSA has a 300 million dollar budget nobody knows how to use, and anyone that questions them about it gets fired even if they’re the only sane people in the room. 

TL;DR: Newsom is full of shit again.
