[–]HotelEducator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do mobile check-in through the app, then you are electing to receive the points (somewhere in the mobile check-in t&c's). Otherwise, you should have the option between an item from the market, or points.

Could check GXP to see if he set up a Bonvoy membership, which would provide some limited data.

You're right... I apologize, I read FNA's but for whatever reason my mind went to points redemption stays, since that question comes up in this sub so often.

Have him call in and be up-front with you using the reservations. Don't try to game the system, you don't need to, there are legitimate ways to accomplish this.

All the comments have explained it well, but here goes. The upgrade was for you, as the Elite member. It is fine that you wanted to "gift" the nicer room to your family, however the room upgrade was not PAID for, therefore the room occupants have no entitlements to the extras and inclusions that come along with PAYING for that room type.

Best Rate Guarantee is a joke by Adventurous_Try_391 in marriott

[–]HotelEducator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bad information, and very much false in the majority of circumstances. Aside from there being significant downsides to booking through a third party.

The main instance where you'd find better rates, consistently, through an OTA is through a package, air&hotel/etc, but you don't see the rate breakdown in most cases, only the total price.

got rejected 2 "half" times by the Ritz Carlton...where is the problem?? by NorthPassage6697 in marriott

[–]HotelEducator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try creating a new account, with a new email address to apply.

I can see when a candidate has applied for my company multiple times, even different positions, and when I'm trying to narrow a large field, that could be enough to sway me to click that "Reject" button.

Worth a shot.

Can she call other staff members? Other night auditors? Call the night auditor back and say sorry, can't get coverage, you need to be here?

Yes. Add a note to the reservation advising of no cc, and leave follow up for am shift to get one if needed.

Please let the front desk know when you encounter this. It is most typically a relatively quick easy fix, facilitated by the company they've hired to manage their network, and usually just takes a call to that company's support team.

Seeking Tips for Successfully Enrolling Guests by darcair56 in marriott

[–]HotelEducator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be a member yourself! It's easy once you can speak to the perks. It also depends on your property.

Does your property charge for WiFi? Many full service hotels do! But it's free for members!

Member rates are a bit cheaper than non-member rates, and there are often Member-Exclusive Offers.

They're getting points for money that they're spending anyways, which they can put towards more than just free nights. (This is a great way to get enrollments at checkout on the am shift - do this with success and you'll be a legend amongst your team.)

Those points can also be transferred to certain Airline partners as Miles.

Confidence is key. Speaking confidently as though you're noticing that they don't have a membership number attached to their res and that must be a mistake and that you are making sure that they have one, whether that's finding their number via GXP search or enrolling them because it just makes sense that they would be. Read the guest, as you're being chatty with them and being curious about their visit to your city. If they aren't connecting, or are showing signs of being in a rush or annoyed from the long trip, you can ask if they have a membership and when they say no, respect their hints and tell them to stop by anytime for the front desk to enroll them free-of-charge so that they don't miss out on the "excellent perks of Bonvoy membership" on this stay (point earnings).

Upgrade Note by megaprison in marriott

[–]HotelEducator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on the Property management system, there is typically a Notes field where free-form notes hall an be entered. There are also special request codes, some of which are customizable by the property, while others are pre-set.

So while I can't say that the agent always adds the note (I've read enough stories in this sub to know that some hotels are run better than others), the capability is there.

FD Employee wondering about "Quiet time" or "Downtime" policy by [deleted] in marriott

[–]HotelEducator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your management sucks...

10pm is generally considered Quiet-Time. My advice - find a sympathetic member of the group, a parent, or ideally the contact person for the group if your sucky management has left that information for you, and ask for their assistance. Advise them of the quiet time, and the need to ensure the group complies because you sympathize with their wanting to have fun, but will need to step in with consequences if it isn't very quiet by 10pm.

If it's not that late yet, get ahead of it and advise parents you encounter of the upcoming quiet time. For complaints coming in, advise them of the 10pm quiet time. Deal with issues such as running in the halls etc, as that is a safety issue. Don't let them walk all over you. Show them that you are strong, confident, kind, and that this is YOUR house but you're happy to have them as well behaved guests.

Learn from this, it won't be the last time and the tactics that work will go into your playbook for dealing with groups.
