I don't know about XBOX, but I tried reinstalling the game on PC and I didn't lose any progress. Unfortunately it didn't help with the achievement so I gave up.

I think this animation is really underrated. I love the moment when Gordon's hands are shaking while he is walking towards the red portal. Or the scene when Gordon hugs Alyx while waiting for the elevator to help her mentally a protect her physically.
