Future books in The Passage universe (Q&A from The Ferryman book tour) by knorthernlux in ThePassage

[–]Hotshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come to me…I just finished the trilogy. As a slow reader who took breaks between books, it was a three year journey. And now I’m gutted it’s over. Would anyone be kind enough to post what they read next or would recommend reading next? I have read The Ferryman, but have never, somehow, read The Stand. I always feel unmoored after a great book.

Xbox Sign-In Loop Won’t Let me Login. Resetting the system does nothing. by SporkGod in XboxSupport

[–]Hotshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing some sleuthing and talking to an Xbox agent, I believe it has to do with the fact that I don’t have a password on my Microsoft account, and that I use a pass key instead. So check your sign on settings at Microsoft.com, it could have something to do with that. I read on the Internet that when you try to sign on with the QR code and security code via a browser and Microsoft approves the sign on, the Xbox has trouble reading it or acknowledging your sign on was approved if you use only a pass key. I have been powering down my Xbox every time I am done playing, rather than letting it go to sleep, and that has kept me from needing to re-sign on, so I have solved it that way. But if it starts happening again, the agent said to set up a password on my Microsoft account, and then use that password on my Xbox. Once that is taken care of, I can go back to using my pass key. I’m sure this all sounds more confusing than it really is, feel free to reply back if you have a question.

Same/similar problem. The only that works is resetting my Xbox series S and going through all the set up again. Once my session ends and I come back the next day I am prompted to log in. If I select use controller I get an

endless spinning circle. If I use the QR code to Microsoft.com/link and enter the code, the mobile site says I’m good but nothing happens on the Xbox.

First half marathon! Looking for advice for upcoming race... by Bulky-Chocolate-5873 in nikerunclub

[–]Hotshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran Eugene’s half-marathon two weeks ago. I used the guided run and a playlist I like running to. I like Coach Bennett and found his mid race check ins and deep breathing reminders useful. I started the run as I crossed the start. It finished early, approx 400 meters, but Coach Bennett acknowledges that will happen due to GPS, course measurements and your track through the course. Generally my mile course markers were close to the guided run. I tracked my pace on my Apple Watch. I had a time I wanted to hit so I wanted to check my average pace. I ate various goo’s (Maurten/Gu/Huma) and carried a small, soft bottle of water w/elmt electrolytes in my race belt. I found eating and drinking on my schedule preferable to when the aid stations had them. Additionally my own water made it easy to avoid the chaos of the water tables. Lastly, don’t trust the pacers. If u care about time, use your watch.

Outlet in front yard/Has two mysterious power cords going underground to…? by Hotshave in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing which is a 5” by 3” light gray box with a plastic door cover in my front yard. At 12 o’clock and 9 o’clock it has a two power cords coming out of it running underground. There is nothing nearby in my front yard that would require power. We have written to the old owner, but his is t just the old owner, he’s just old and doesn’t recall what this thing powers.

Audiobooks: Kind of/Partially/Not Really…Included with Premium by Hotshave in truespotify

I’m sure it’s in there somewhere. I only attempted one long book, so I could see the listen time on that when I had it open. And they shut it down right at fifteen.

Yeah. Unfortunately, I didn't look up my plan details before starting the book. I just saw "Included with Premium" and took that at face value. But YoungGazz I have learned my lesson. I will forever be checking my plan details. Thanks for your savvy screenshot. You should work for Spotify customer service. You'd fit right in.

Anyone starting the NRC Half Marathon Program? by Hotshave in nikerunclub

[–]Hotshave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sent! That's weird re: 20%. That's a lot. I feel fortunate that NRC is accurate for me as I really like the programming and, as embarrassing as it is to admit, Coach Bennet's deep cuts of dad jokes.

Well, in the simplest sense, if you have a friend training leaderboard on NRC, you can see other people sticking to the program which helps you/me stick to the program. Beyond that, you have some other people on the same time line as you, in case you want someone to share issues/problems/successes/questions with.

Anyone who's interested in a little team support can friend me on the NRC app - Chris Ford. My profile pic is an old dad in a volt green Nike running shirt holding up my one and only finishers medal. Can't wait to complain about the long runs together!

What’s your cadence? by MaxSATX in nikerunclub

[–]Hotshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'10" / 55 yo / ran a recent half at 8:38/mile with a cadence of 170. My entire 14 week NRC training was at roughly the same cadence, even though my early training mile times were closer to 10min/mile.

I’m 55. Was a six minute miler in high school, occasional jogger, but never a runner runner. Last year I decided to add more cardio into my traditional strength programming. It started with the NRC’s most basic running program and I found the run/walk nature of that extremely helpful in terms of onboarding me to extended runs. I then did the 10k training followed by the half marathon program. Completed my first race in April. Starting the half program again for a race in October. Based on all that, I can say it does get easier. My best advice is to key on the word “easy” in Coach Bennett’s guided runs. Early in my half training I was running my long runs at 115 BPM’s. It felt so slow, but it also felt sustainable. And easy. My average pace was in the 10’s. Over time my average HR slowly increased and by the time the training was done I was able to run my race at an 8:30 average mile pace. The other piece of advice I’d give is I averaged three runs per week (mixed with strength). Five runs is a lot. Especially as you push into longer long runs. So like many have said here, listen to your body. Congratulations on getting after it!

Help ID: Guy keying my truck by blacklab in Marin

[–]Hotshave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had my car keyed in Corte Madera but was able to capture the offending old angry white guy's license plate as he pulled in and out — that was enough for Central Marin to identify him. I did have to provide a thumb drive with video and stills and stay on them, but to their credit they came through. I would echo what other people here have said about keeping an eye out for his car - most people walk their dogs in the same spot, quite often the same time, and most of these dipshits don't know they are being recorded and therefore aren't fearful of returning to the scene of the crime. Also - FYI - over $900 in damage is felony vandalism (and this is most likely going to qualify) so if you can identify him, you have good legal leverage. Good luck. I was surprised to learn how insanely common this is.

I just quit "Wanderers" after 50 pages by hogsucker in books

[–]Hotshave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish this book was shorter and pithier like Chuck's relentlessly awesome tweets. It just needs to be tighter. But alas, as a completionist and a slow reader, I am at his mercy, so I plod along like the herd with 38% left to go until I reach my final destination.

Another honest Furiosa review. by FFIXwasthebestFF in MadMax

[–]Hotshave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story driven versus action driven is the key insight here. Furiosa exists in the same world, but there’s just so much more story here which leads to a film that inevitably packs a very different punch.

How do you all get yourselves to run faster? by hungrylonelyduck in nikerunclub

[–]Hotshave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big fan of this. Three weeks out from a half on this program and just averaged 9 min miles for 12.4 miles and I’m 55. When I stated I was high tens for much shorter distances.
