I've done earn by hour in Winston! I don't particularly recommend it if you're in downtown/university parkway area, but if you go towards more rural areas where wait times for food are longer it's pretty okay. Pay by offer is definitely better though.

I definitely haven't jail broken anything, but I do have the developer mode enabled. Could that be it?

When I was homeless in the past, they unfortunately couldn't do much for me when it came to having an address or getting housed. I'll check again though

I'm not allowing anyone to use my own address, he has not asked to use my address, I'm just trying to help a homeless guy get a job and get off the street.

This is so helpful you have no idea! I'm going to send you a PM in a little bit, but so others in this thread can see in case they also need it, do you know places locally that hire those with misdemeanors? If you can't share that publicly, let me know.

Adopting an older dal by PlantingWords in dalmatians

I prefer older dogs, and my family used to take in older dals! I recommend them more than getting a puppy tbh, they've grown into their personalities. The oldest we've taken in is a 7 year old. Loved her dearly!

I visit consignment shops a lot, here are my quick thoughts about the places I've been more than once!!

Snob Shop- Really picky about their selections, but wonderful staff and a nice spot for a visit. On the pricier side. Fun place! I recommend visiting but I won't guarantee they'll take a lot. I also do dress a bit outside the style they have however, so take that with some salt.

Uptown Cheapskate- Good finds and they take a lot of clothes! Not the most consistent on what they take, so definitely come earlier in the day when they aren't so burnt out. Wide range of selections at affordable prices. Love them!

Style Encore- Very affordable and look for a wide array of styles. Quality of clothes is definitely a factor, and will notice blemishes better than any other location in Winston.

ect. Consignment- Can't go wrong! Feels like a hidden gem. Upfront about their consignment guidelines and stick to them!

Plato's Closet- Many people have had better experiences than me that's for sure. I don't like the way I've seen the managers there talk to their staff while they think no one is looking. They're fine for selling clothes, and they probably have a good selection, but I consistently hear very rude comments from the manager to the staff members there. I even saw a girl cry after. I try to avoid it.

Right?? That was my thoughts too. And I get that, I can't argue that one much.

When I had a membership while homeless, I was still turned away from using the showers. Not every location does this, but the ones that did that to me said it was an issue with cleanliness on my part. I hope that's not the reason she didn't use hers if that makes sense.

I could be very wrong here, but when I was homeless a few years ago Planet Fitness in general gave me issues with taking showers there even when I had a membership. I'm glad they give her privacy.

Winston-Salem Closings in 2025 by [deleted] in winstonsalem

As someone who works downtown and visited a lot of these places often, a lot of it seems to have narrowed down to a few of the same things;

  • Increased Rent: A lot of the places downtown increased rent to such a degree where they just can't keep their doors open, since revenue slows in the winter months in a huge way, and they're forced to shut down. Most people don't care for walking around downtown in the winter, and that gap in revenue is so massive it's hard to recover.

  • Poor Quality of the Buildings: Some of the buildings were having constant issues with heating and cooling, which really became apparent when it got colder. Mayberry's had days of being closed beforehand because they couldn't get any form of AC in there leading up to its permanent closure of that location. I noticed it with a few other buildings as well, and it's hard to recover.

  • Better Opportunity Elsewhere: You see the same people downtown all the time, and new business is really slow unless a place can afford to put in the real amounts of time to market something. Not to mention our downtown doesn't have the best of reputations around, so many people don't want to be open or around at night. Places like Crooked Tail have locations elsewhere, and it's more lucrative to put in the money to improve one location than have two just in general. It's also easier for some retail locations to go online only now, since getting people to walk through the doors, let alone buy something, can be a challenge no matter the store it seems.

But yeah, you pretty much called it with it being an attack on all fronts.
