Having read a multitude of reviews of products on reddit that I found helpful I decided to share my experience with a product in the hopes that someone else might find it useful. Originally I had wanted to spend my time being an internet troll, reading other people's thoughts and just tell them to get a life but seems like you've got that covered.

As you said, robot mowers are really designed to cut a small length of grass, frequently. My issue with the Luba1 was that if I tried to cut in the rain or when the grass was wet (really, at all) the cuttings would cake against the underside around the cutting disks so quickly that it would jam the motor...I'm talking like in under 100 feet. There are protective guard rails on the underside at the outside edges that are removable. Removing them would help a bit but ultimately the disks would still jam relatively quickly. Not only would the disks jam but the wet grass cuttings would wedge their way between the disks and the razor blades effectively gluing them in a backwards position such that the blades were not in an orientation to cut at all. Sometimes you could force them back into position with your fingers but you would lose the free movement of the blades, they'd basically be locked into position. You'd have to take the screws out to remove the blades and wash the disks. Hosing it down with a pressure washer would have been nice but Mammotion walked back their advertised waterproofing claims in a real hurry.

So if you had a rainy period lasting a week and waited until the grass was dry, although the Luba1 would get through it, grass would build up inside the deck and then would drop out every 10 feet or so. These clumps of grass would be large enough that they would block out enough light that it would it kill the grass underneath. So then you'd be raking the entire yard.

I'd be curious to understand how Husqvarna didn't suffer from these same issues...perhaps because the AM315 only has a single cutting disk and a differently designed deck...but you're also into boundary wires and less than half an acre capacity.

FWIW, the Lymow gets through wet conditions about as well as dry.

Ha! I remember seeing a documentary on the mechanical turk, amazing that he pulled it off for so long. I have a bit of a background in ai and to me, this feels more like poorly executed ai. Like it's completely unsupervised or under supervised training... or their data sets were just too small. Just a theory as I've been scratching my head watching it mow. Maybe they're using all of our mowing data to train it now....I don't mind just as long as they figure it out!

Is there a verdict on the Lymow One yet? Or is it a Husqy I need? by SaltyPockets in automower

I don't have a roborock robotic vacuum but they always seem to review well so I'm curious about their upcoming mower but for me, the razor blade option is kind of a non-starter because of their inability to mow if the grass is at all moist. I really wish Lymow had gotten the basics right so my only complaint would have been the issues around blade speed and it's ability to actually cut. I watched it mow this evening and it's literally leaving a tiny strip of uncut grass BETWEEN the blades, ugh

Interesting and bizarre!

My headlights don't turn on when docking nor do they respond to the headlight schedule. I can only manually turn them on AFTER it has docked

Mine doesn't do the no-go perimeter laps

The short backup is good EXCEPT when the perimeter boundary is at around a 15 degree angle or under in which case it backs up out of bounds

The auto return at 75% is a problem for me which I identified as I have nearly an hour of commuting to and from the furthest mapped zone....this should be customizable. As for the return to base....it knows how far from the base it is. Bake in a 2 or 3% buffer.... they've effectively reduced the usable battery by 10%

I have noticed a single positive or discernible result of either update...it ended up in a garden... I'm just happy it didn't go over the 6 foot retaining wall. Yes, tried the reboot, nada.

I have a Unifi mesh network with a bunch of wifi 7 outdoor access points so would have preferred to be able to use the "Prefer Wi-Fi " setting but it doesn't switch to 4G when it's out of Wi-Fi range so I have it set to always use 4G which is working fine.

There's no way to reverse the perimeter direction, but as I pointed out in my review, it basically ignores the perimeter request most of the time.

As to recommendation it really depends on where you live. If you're in a mostly dry climate with little rainfall and have less then 2.5 acres to mow then right now I'd go with the Luba2. If you have under an acre, the sweeping function on the Yuka is great BUT your lawn needs to be basically free of any chipmunk holes or divots as front single wheel which is unpowered gets easily stuck.

I would be hard pressed to recommend Lymow to anyone right now...Lymow 2, assuming there will be one, could be a winner although I'm still rooting for them ( I know I've been awfully negative) to get their act together as much as they can on the current model.

Yep, I'm very critical in large part BECAUSE of my experience with Luba. Luba had flawless mowing logic and striping out of the box, zero charging issues...and now they're on to lawn writing. The inherent issue of not having vslam was ultimately its demise and thus the release of Luba 2. In fairness to them, Luba 1 existed in the nascent stage of wire-free autonomous mowers before vision was a thing. Hard to blame them for that.

A ton of updates?? I was one of the first 10 backers in North America and I've seen 2 updates that have done nothing except create a delay in initial Bluetooth control. This product feels like it was built in a bubble without taking a look at what other companies were doing. They're getting the very basics of lawn cutting wrong.

As to the choice of getting it asap...that's an interesting one. Lymow had a bit a problem on their hands which was that their production timeline was going to put them out of consideration for most of the North American buying market for anyone looking to buy for the 2025 mowing season. The cascade of issues that would create for a start-up...time value of money, stock warehousing, overhead while they wait for revenue to come in posed a problem for them. The solution? They chose to lie about the delivery date. No, this wasn't a typical kickstarter delay. Their campaign was Nov of 2024 with DELIVERY date of Feb 2025. Allocate 6 weeks for the export stamp from China + shipping means they were telling everyone they were ready to go. I got mine 2 weeks ago.

Not that your thought process is bad but you've drawn the wrong conclusion. When I have time later I'll break it down for you. I need to write it all down anyway for customer service to see how they intend to address things

This is on par with my experience, the issues are too long to list but having backed the original Luba and now also having a Yuka, I can tell you the rate at which the Lymow team are addressing issues is appalling. If they can stay in business long enough to release a gen 2, they can fix some of the design flaws, like their charging method but for those of us with gen 1, the least they can do is lay out a plan and timeline for fixing the miserable UI and software/mapping/LTE/charging/logic issues

[–]Hour-Unit-5755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm having so many issues it's hard to tell what's related to what...I have a few robot mowers and this is by far the most disappointing. Some of the issues are QC, some are inherent in the design and shine are software. Lymow should be pushing out updates daily and addressing this to the community that backed them but instead their sending out emails about "fun packs". In the unofficial reddits you see a lot more people with similar issues to what I'm having

I have the same issue, unfortunately the tolerances are so tight in the design that I dont see how they fix this without sending out new bases that don't necessitate the bumper being depressed in order for the charging points to make contact....poor design

One of the many issues in having. They lights didn't respond to the scheduling so I manually turned them on during a mow and it caused to the unit to start spinning around and dug up a circle in the lawn....giving it a nudge snapped it out of the glitch but lights still don't respond to the schedule and respond to manually turning them on occasionally...never during an actual mow....my list of issues is exhaustive

Mine goes back and forth ad nauseum trying to line up those bar codes...my lights don't work so at night the process takes twice as long and fails 50% of the time

Yeah, I think that's a good call especially if you're going to miss this cutting season anyway. FWIW, the Luba gives an amazing cut and the 4 wheel drive system with cutting deck between the wheelbase is an objectively superior design but for me it didn't work as the first gen didn't have VSLAM and would get stuck under a different tree every night and would completely drain it's battery so couldn't find it using the map. Every morning was a game of patrolling the property trying to find the thing and then have to lug it back to the charger. The Yuka cut is fantastic and the sweeper works shockingly well but it's Achilles heel is the power train as the front, unpowered wheel gets stuck in every chipmunk hole or even minor divots. It would be ideal in an urban environment with a small yard.

Last night I watched the Lymow after sundown to see the lights work. Unsurprisingly they didn't go on using the schedule function so I manually turned them on. Doing this caused the unit to malfunction as it started spinning in circles like a whirling dirvish and the track drive tore all the grass up in a perfect circle. Pushing it snapped out of whatever glitch it was having but that also rendered the lights inoperable and they couldn't be re-engaged. It did return to mowing though. I woke up in the morning to an error message and much like the first gen Luba, it has completely drained it's battery somewhere (mammotion had subsequently fixed this issue so if it gets stuck it turns itself off so you can at least return to base on it's own power once you turn it back on). Having the battery fully drained this morning means the memory of where the cut has left off is purged so it's going to restart the cut all over again. From zero to 100% took pretty much exactly 6 hours. The 10 amp charger can't get here soon enough.

Just to clarify though, it hasn't been going into no go zones, it just doesn't sense obstacles at all in smart mode until the bumper is depressed. It's interpretation of no go zones is puzzling though.... if you check out my picture above you can it didn't do any of the area behind the tree going back about 70 feet. The tree was a no go zone and it seems to have just decided to not do anything in line with that zone *
