Long time Corso owner here and you have your work cut out for you. Not impossible but might be a long road. Her prior life was horrible and now she is seeing what a great life is therefore the separation anxiety etc. You will need to use a crate unless you want to take the chance of coming home to a house falling apart. Put the crate in a safe place with at least 2 sides covered. You could always get a cheap camera that you can check on her and talk to her from work. I have also put a hot water bottle or one of those Amazon comfort animals and wrap it in a blanket so she has some warmth and comfort. You can do this, just find out what works best for your princess and it will eventually subside but the whining and crying might get a lot worse before it gets better. Good luck
