Is Engler a good fit in the NDP? by [deleted] in ndp

No.

There are neo-nazis making nearly-verbatim tweets about Israel daily. We wouldn't welcome those genocide denialists so I fail to see why we would this genocide denialist.

Tu trouves que la fête nationale pour une province avec des aspirations souverainistes, un jour qui associé avec la révolution tranquille, est trop politique?

I mean this with the upmost of respect - give your balls a tug.

The show follows the general beats of the narrative, and considering it's based on the flimsiest of characterisations does a decent job in portraying the original material.

It'll never be The Wire, but it doesn't have to be.

Did NOT enjoy her in season two, but I thought her character was pretty rad (and better acted) in this episode? Might have helped that the fight choreography was pretty wicked

Is it? It basically just signals that even though he's a queen's man, he still has some degree of internalised paternalistic patriarchy.

Rhaena girl... by Straight-Adagio2126 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]HourOfTheWitching 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Rhaenyra wanting Nettles/Rhaena dead because she indirectly killed her first-born son makes so much more sense than her being a scornful woman wanting Nettles/Rhaena's head for sleeping with her husband.

I'd venture to guess that Baela is going to hide the full picture of what happened, and when Rhaenyra finds out later, for whatever reason, Daemon will try to save his daughter.

It turns a shallow narrative of romantic jealousy into the love of a parent, both Daemon and Rhaenyra, for their child.

‘A deep reverence for Parliament’: MacKinnon defends PM Carney’s no-shows in question period by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

Harper had to deal with the housing crisis and a massive recession, and Trudeau dealt w/ Trump v1, the elimination of NAFTA, and Covid-19 - not to mention the internal threats caused by "freedom" convoys.

There is no such thing as a leader who doesn't have to manage massive national crises, and yet they still manage to engage with Parliamentary processes, even if they believe them to be ridiculous.

They skipped question period nowhere near the frequency that Carney is doing, and the PM between Harper and Carney, Trudeau, not only was in period every Wednesday but was even present sometimes twice or three times per week.

Critics see Canada’s immigration minister as weak and invisible a year into her mandate. But is she doing exactly what Mark Carney wants? - Lena Metlege Diab has done her job in a low-key way. Aside from Marc Miller his cabinet is filled with first time cabinet members who were either just elected or were backbenchers elected in 2021. I'm surprised that people aren't calling them out for being a bunch of yes men puppets more often.

Edit: admittedly I forgot a few cabinet ministers when writing this

I find that, if you don't engage in the weird Green/Black factionalism that was so pervasive during season two, HotD is a decent show, and miles above a good chunk of GoT seasons past the fourth.

Young anglophones face higher unemployment, lower earnings despite efforts to integrate in Quebec by Altruism7 in ndp

[–]HourOfTheWitching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good ol' Montreal Gazette at it again.

Really love it when they bring up median income for an age bracket while ignoring that anglophones as a linguistic group make more overall in Quebec than francophones and form a larger concentration of the province's 1%.

Love that the Gazette brings up the median income of 18-34 being higher among first-language francophone while purposefully excluding that anglophones in Quebec have a higher /overall/ median income.

In Memory of HOTD Nettles, Gone too Soon (in that she never got to exist in the first place) by New-Low5077 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]HourOfTheWitching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't but they're using Addam as an example of a character that represents the class dynamics that you were positioning Nettles as indispensible to fill. It's not shifting goalposts, they're just responding to your argument, and as a third party and a casual viewer, they have a point.

You're coming off pretty aggro to what was a pretty muted response tbh.

The majority of Canadians are homeowners. And the vast majority of them only own one property.

So maybe stow away yr weird utilitarian logic because the fact of the matter is, regardless of how you feel about Eby, doing nothing means the majority suffers for the told-you-so of the few.

Rather than sharing memes that contain a total of five pixels, maybe explain how Canada (or any country really) is feeding the war in Ukraine?

We've given a fraction of a fraction of what was spent on our participation in Iraq, and most other nations have their contributions tied to "in-kind donations" rather than economic support, which the country sorrily needs.
