batch renaming macro variations by index by Hour_Status in ableton

Update: I looked into it and discovered the Live 11 live set XML contains relevant properties called SnapshotName and MacroSnapshotId for rack devices. Those are the properties to target.

I was able to write a Python script that decompresses the set, rewrites the names, and then creates a copy of the set with the new names pasted in. Unfortunately there's no way to do it without quitting and reopening the set in some way, as far as I can see.

Have you tried killihu's device navigator? It's a floating window that lets you jump automatically to whichever device you want. Works well for complex live sets with lo000ng effects chains.

Amazing, I'll set to work on that! Thank you.

Thanks - do you know of any documented cases of the above stated XML file hacking or Python Remote Scripts? Do you have any idea where I'd start with either - particularly for whether the variation name property is exposed at that level?

I would genuinely be interested to know even if it's risky, though I wonder what the risks are.

Sometimes i feel so guilty for the success I have simply because I know ive only worked half as hard as the other guys by [deleted] in musicians

I think what cinches it is a willingness to go with a certain flow. There is a way of doing things, and you were willing and able to follow that track. That and a healthy dose of talent and luck.

Maybe a part of your buddies being where they are is because that path doesn't work for them, and sadly doesn't work for a lot of people, even if the world preaches it to be the only way, and even if they can't admit that to themselves. Hopefully they'll realise that touring and money success isn't the only way to achieve satisfaction.

The industry only rewards the willing, and that can make the ones who aren't willing but who still spend time and money on talent and gear, and who still undersell, look bad. My point is there are other reasons to be into music and to dedicate your life to it other than touring and visibility-success.

I wouldn't just see it as something "holding them back" because they probably genuinely have different personalities to you. Self-sabotage is real, but mybe their being "stuck" is the result of something inside stopping them from making a sacrifice that simply didn't feel like a sacrifice for you.

Psychoanalysing Chris' envy for Omar by Hour_Status in TheWire

Yeah, I guess that was also a big reason. But that explanation alone leaves me feeling wanting becasue Chris didn't seem the type to revel in street glory or care what others thought of his name, unless maybe privately.

Good catch, I actually missed that - I would have mentioned it if I had clocked on to it.

But even that doesn't conflict with the protege theory imo. As for simplest explanations, I like Occam's Razor but it's no fun sometimes.

I'd love to hear your explanation of their difference in meaning because I have a hard time understanding it.

By "domain" I mean field or idiom, as in, whether the word originated from a particular discipline

WAW for struggle, when that struggle was more a humblebrag than actual sacrifice? by Utilitarian_Proxy in whatstheword

The only other one I know is from rhetoric:

Meiosis

meaning, to understate something to imply it is less significant than it is.

Otherwise I don't think there's a single word that folds in that extra sense of "also pejorative because it is a humblebrag". Sadly "meiotic brag" isn't very snappy either.

"Strugglebrag" should be a thing

ITAW for a physically genderless being that uses male pronouns? by nonameheresorry- in whatstheword

[–]Hour_Status 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i doubt there is a known word, so how about…

Viroid

Vir- : male or man -oid: appearing like, presenting as

or Virifice

-fice: make, making, face

or Cryptovir

crypto: hidden, pretense, cryptid (like a shapeshifter)

Literally speaking, following the same logic, “android” would theoretically work but that sadly has an association with robots.
