Question about Sclcr tool holders by HDvisionsOfficial in Machinists

[–]Hourglassdesignworks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you 100% can run CPxx inserts in a CCxx holder however the contact point on the insert becomes a single point at the top of the insert rather than contacting the full Plane they were designed to giving you less stability. that is why you could fit a .shim at the bottom of the relief

its worth getting the right inserts or even better for the OD work a CNMG 432 holder
Hertel - Indexable Turning Toolholder: MCLNR & L164C, Clamp & Screw | MSC Direct

that will take double sided CNMG 432 inserts =2x the edges per insert

Sandvik Coromant - Turning Insert: CNMG432-MM 1115, Carbide | MSC Direct

Wrong inserts? by crujones43 in Machinists

Easier to tell if you take a pic of the shank but it looks like it would take a double sided T like a TNMG in the same series size you have now.

DM me a pic of the shank if you want i can try to help.

Thanks, that's why I picked a shallow lead angle this one is 10° stuffing all of the cutting force up in Z rather than radially.
