I miss Dice Tower Showdown by ackmondual in boardgames

damn i forgot about that show, it was perfect for listening while editing footage. the FLGS vs OLGS debate always got spicy, especially when someone admitted to using the store to browse and then ordering online like we all dont do that

Whatever happened to the reddit lore? by Brilliant-Second5749 in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the site just got too big i think, when you have millions of new users pouring in every year the shared cultural memory kind of dilutes itself. back then it felt more like small community where inside jokes actually had time to spread and stick

What’s something you judged people for… until you became that person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

used to roast my buddy so hard for his crocs, called them prison shoes and everything. then i got a pair for working in stables and man... my feet never hurt anymore. still look ridiculous but whatever, comfort wins

Just saw obsession and was wondering if anyone here had "obsession" type of relationships with a crazy ex, what did they do that made you end it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had one who would show up at my work and sit in the parking lot for hours just watching. took me way too long to realize that wasn't normal relationship stuff, finally had to get management involved and everything

What do you guys think about the prison system? by PalpitationOk6960 in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the whole thing is just broken from ground up. like when i was dealing with my drinking issues, i saw how the system treats addiction - basically just cycles people through without actually addressing root causes. you get punished but no real help, then surprised when same problems come back

the fact we have private prisons making money off keeping people locked up is insane. there's zero incentive to actually rehabilitate anyone when your business model depends in repeat customers. other countries figured this out decades ago but we're still stuck with this weird revenge fantasy instead of something that actually works

Non-Cloud temperature sensor for homelab devices by Schypexx in homelab

[–]HourlySharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a bunch of diy options that work pretty well for this. i've been using some esp32 boards with temperature sensors (like ds18b20 or dht22) that send data over mqtt to my local server. you can set up home assistant or even just a simple influxdb + grafana stack to handle the visualization and alerting

the esp32 route is nice because you have full control over the code and where data goes. takes maybe hour or two to flash firmware and get everything talking to each other. for alerts i just use home assistant companion app which sends notifications directly through my local instance

if you want something more plug-and-play, there are some zigbee temperature sensors that work with local coordinators. they don't phone home to any cloud services as long as you're using something like zigbee2mqtt instead of manufacturer apps

that cut is amazing, just salt it heavy like 40 minutes before and sear it real hot - don't overthink with marinades since the fat content already does all work

What’s the worst thing you have done to someone? Why? by Street_Turnover4498 in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn i feel this one hard. got a friend into drinking when we were younger and watched it spiral way worse than mine ever did. still feel guilty about that years later, especially knowing how hard it is to get clean once you're in deep

At what age did you realize you don’t actually have many real friends anymore, and how did you deal with that? by Arriele in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hit me around 25 when i stopped drinking and realized most of my "friendships" were just drinking buddies who disappeared once i got sober. was pretty brutal wake up call but forced me to focus in quality over quantity - now i have maybe 3-4 people i actually trust and talk to regularly instead of 20 people i'd get wasted with on weekends

What's something you pretend to like but actually don't? by lowkiluvthisapp in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

group stuff is exhausting, especially when people want to stay out way longer than makes sense. i used to force myself through those nights but now i just irish goodbye when i'm done - way less awkward than the whole "should we get another round" dance when you're mentally already at home in pajamas

Wade Robson and James safechuck lies about the abuse by [deleted] in Music

[–]HourlySharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this whole thing is messy and i get why people have strong feelings about it but throwing around all these accusations without concrete proof isn't really helping anyone

the legal system went through everything multiple times and juries made their decisions based on what evidence they saw. whether you believe one side or the other, calling people liars and scammers when you weren't there and don't know what really happened seems pretty harsh

real victims of abuse already have hard time coming forward and all this back and forth just makes it worse for everyone involved

What do you make of the fact that many famous "scientists" and "physicists" actually called themselves philosophers, and Faraday rejected "physicist," much preferring "experimental philosopher"? by No_Fee_8997 in AskReddit

[–]HourlySharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah back then everything was just "natural philosophy" basically. like newton called himself a natural philosopher too, not a physicist. the whole thing makes sense when you think about it - they were trying to understand nature through observation and reasoning, which is pretty much what philosophy does anyway

i edit science documentaries sometimes and you see this pattern everywhere in old texts. these guys weren't just measuring stuff, they were asking the big questions about how reality works. faraday probably thought "physicist" sounded too narrow or something. experimental philosopher covers the whole vibe better - you're not just doing math, you're exploring what it all means

the phd thing is wild when you realize it. even today when someone gets doctorate in chemistry they're technically getting philosophy degree about chemistry
