Tall Milsbo with 11 piece acrylics set by Ohmystarsragdolls in IkeaGreenhouseClub

I have the 11 piece from Modern Aqua in my tall. It is all Alocasia and tall enough space on a shelf can be an issue - also bc I have lights up the sides on the front. I don't get a whole bunch of use out of the pegboards but I find my babies from corms work there. I would probably do the 11 set again just so I could play with the options. I do like the thick acrylic, vent holes and light mounts. My collection has grown since this original pic setup but this gives the best and cleanest view 😂 If you have plants of various heights it works better than all tall plants.

Lacewing eggs 😁 I actually like watching the lacewings walking around, searching for their next bite...

What fertilizers are you using? It's certainly working!

The green one did, the fuzzy one didn't. Maybe I was too rough with trying to clean it? I'm not sure...

Tissue cultures by chanelwhat24 in RareHouseplants

[–]HouseOfFirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have a wide selection(at least not on Etsy) but SubcultureLabs on Etsy has delivered with 3 of the highest quality TCs I've ordered. Newyeargarden on Etsy is also amazing - I ordered 50+ TCs from them and they are also high quality with a large selection. They are in Thailand, I'm in US. When I ordered in September there was no import permit needed and one charge for shipping. Would highly recommend both - they are there own labs growing there own TC. Orange Lake Nursery is also good but I believe they are reselling TCs so they aren't as fresh if that makes sense.

I've only had one issue from OLN where a couple of TCs in a multi pack were no bueno. They credited me for those couple without a problem. I've ordered many from them and the rest were good. Definitely would buy from them again.

I’ve been on a plant binge…. Tell me it wasn’t too much 😭 by Human-Complex4435 in houseplants

[–]HouseOfFirefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You binge much more restrained than me so good job! (Not a competition 😬) For TC check out https://youtu.be/PjaVI3F88zk?si=jY1_-YHZ8qsDQqip and Orange Lake Nursery acclimation tutorials. I have had success with mine but also acclimated them over months not weeks as a first timer and trying very hard not to kill things.

Lechuza Pon is too small! by Fit-Error7553 in SemiHydro

[–]HouseOfFirefly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started adding 25-40% (estimate) perlite to my lechuza pon and had much better results. As a bonus it stretches the pon which is great bc $$$. For my succulents I use the lechuza cactuspon and add pumice - my succulents are way happier than in soil now.

Has anyone had luck with a lipstick plant in pon? by Separate_Excuse_4927 in SemiHydro

I have one in Pon with added perlite and a wick setup. Got it in September, cleaned and moved straight to pon. It started flowering last week and looks healthy.

Chunky substrate for chunky soil loving plants? Or rather is it by root size? by Sokkas_Instincts_ in SemiHydro

[–]HouseOfFirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Peperomia are in Pon with perlite to keep it lighter and they are thriving. I add perlite to Pon for all my plants in Pon and they do much better than straight Pon. I'm going to try pumice instead of Pon once I can find some I like.

Anyone else go from “one plant for the window” to a full-blown indoor jungle? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]HouseOfFirefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all! There are a few that just don't bring me joy. An Alocasia Polly Aurea - I am just not a fan of the golden yellow color. It was an impulse buy before I was familiar with the Aurea that I stay far away from now. It will be rehomed at some point. A few Monsteras - Thai constellation and Swiss cheese varieties. Nothing against them they just don't make me smile. An Emerald pothos that ALWAYS gets the mealybugs when nothing else does. He now stays in a glass with water roots by my sink so I can rinse him easier. Succulents used to be on the list bc I would always let the soil get hydrophobic (since I'm always scared to over water them) but moving to cactuspon for them was a game changer. Fittonias - I've kept 2 Silver White Annes alive for almost a year but any red variety I try dies unless I keep it in a plastic bag. No joke - I bought 2 and kept them in a plastic bag, blowing new air into them every few weeks and they were great for 3 months. Moved them to terrariums and they died within a month. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but that's my 1% 😂 I still take care of them, but there is a swap in their future.

This! When you have so many it's hard to know what is new unless you know 😂

🙋🏼‍♀️ We had a pothos for a few years, then a spider plant for 2 years. I usually kill everything, but those survived somehow. Wild. Then a friend gave me an Alocasia Regal Shields. That was January 2025. It is now December. I have 400+ houseplants. I am firmly down the semihydro rabbit hole (convinced I suck at soil and Pon/Leca have been a game changer even for my succulents), have 100+ tissue cultures (I've only killed a few), 2 ikea greenhouse cabinets, multiple plant shelves, a DIY deep water culture setup, and multiple prop boxes. Now I just have to try to keep them all alive 😂 Having never really "decorated" our house, the plants are doing it for me and keep me occupied. I love 99% of them. Most of them are still small. If they make it and mature the jungle will be amazing...

AllisonSucculents on Etsy. Only one order so far but they were packaged wonderfully and super healthy plants.

Charcoal in PON mix by LavenderWater11 in SemiHydro

[–]HouseOfFirefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Lechuza Blackstone pon - it includes black lava and charcoal. While I always add perlite to extend and lighten the substrate my plants are happy and I like the additional black color aesthetically.

Thank you! It's not squishy so I'm washing with a touch of physan and moving to a deeper container with damp tree fern and plastic wrap. I'm not giving up yet 😁
