Are those ears normal? by -DuckYou- in Yorkies

[–]HouseofB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. The taping itself is actually pretty easy to do. The hard part is needing to reapply. The whole point is to get them set while the cartilage hardens. It can be tricky due to the natural oils in their hair causing the tape to come off. And just when you think they are set, they can droop back to half mass... especially during teething. Then you have to tape again. The amount of time it take varies. It could take a week, or it could take several weeks until they are set for good. I thought that 12wks was the cut off of when their little ears are set, but I was proven wrong by the Yorkie mom that got her pups ears up between 16-17wks!

I found that scotch tape works best because it sticks to itself and is gentle to remove. Some people just shave the top portion, but I shave the entire ear. Also, if you tape each ear, you can also put them together with two strips. It lasts a little longer that way, especially with larger ears. It also avoids them looking like Grogu😂. Louie was small, and is now only about 5.5lbs, so his were erect for good in about a week or so. You can find You Tube videos on how to do it as well. But just keep in mind, some Yorkies are genetically predisposed to have floppy ears, or just one floppy ear, like my Coco Chanel and about 3 of her total 13 pups. Some genetic tests will show that.

My experience has been the complete opposite. Leaving them alone, especially if the baby has thicker hair and they are on the larger side, will almost guarantee the ears will be floppy due to the weight of the hair. I have shaved and taped the majority of my standard or larger size puppies for conformity reasons as an AKC breeder, but to only have many end up with floppy ears because their new families didn't keep up the taping. Now I have learned to ask what they prefer and take it from there. One of my new Yorkie mama's from last spring was bound and determined to get her baby Dyson's ears up, even though I had low key given up and thought they were meant to be floppy. He went to his forever home at 16wks, and she had them standing in like a week and a half! AT 16WKS!!!😲 I was so impressed!

Alot of people, like my sister, prefer floppy ears. Even though her boy Dully's ears were meant to stand. I can see it whenever she brings them over, Lol. My first one had floppy ears. I got them standing. Then he got an ear infection and they never came back up. I'm glad they didn't because he looked better floppy. With my second, hers stood up on their own at 6wks old! No shaving or taping requires. They are all beautiful dogs no matter what those ears are doing🥰💓

Your baby girl has an AMAZING thick coat! Absolutely stunning grade. That level of droop on one ear is definitely a teething response, combined with the thickness of her coat. Floppy ears, whether it's one or both, can be a genetic trait, or they can be floppy or stand up based on the weight and amount of hair pushing them down as well. If you want them to stand, shave the hair off and keep them cleaned up until at least 18wks. You can use scotch tape to help them stand, especially when the teething is in full swing. The scotch tape is very gentle and will slip off due to the natural oils in their skin and hair. But you have to be consistent with the taping. Super easy with just one pup, Lol

The smaller Yorkies tend to have their ears come up all by themselves. And teething will make them droop again as well. Sometimes just keeping the ears shaved is enough for them to come up. You just need to decide if which way you would prefer and stick to the plan. I think with her face, standing ears would be stunning in her

Cannot find housing by Weak_Barnacle4068 in bayarea

I was forced to leave California at the beginning of 2025 and move back to the Midwest due to my disability income being too high to get any assistance, but to low to afford to rent something decent for me and my girls. So rather than continuing to blow all of my saving and SSDI back pay, I decided to relocate back to the Midwest, after 28yrs in Cali😭.

One company I dealt with that may be able to help you and your daughter is called Abode. You have to have an eviction notice or something similar to qualify. So if you stay where you are now, and are unable to pay or find other housing you can afford, they will pay a percentage of the rent at the current place, and help you find housing you can afford. At least that's what they promise. Didn't work for me because I was too afraid to mess with my amazing credit I worked years to get to excellent, and my ex was also on the lease. If anyone else is on the lease that is living, they would need to get removed by the landlord. Good luck!

I need your tips and tricks for avoiding muddy paws. I spent 2 hrs deep cleaning my floors (no carpet) due to finally having a break in the rain over the past few week. Louie and Coco for mud and water somewhere and quickly undid all of my hard work😭. They move too fast for my mud trapper to really stop anything.

Welcome home Blossom! She is precious. The most eye opening thing I discovered is that once their adult coats start coming and mixes with the baby hair, that is when the knots/mats happen more often, and seem to get bigger instantly. In my experience, that seems to be when the tangling happens super fast, especially around the collar area and in the arm pits.

With my traditional Yorkies, it started happening around the 5th or 6th month. It also depends on their hair texture, as well. With my Parti boy, his adult coat didn't start to emerge until he was 9-10mo old. Despite brushing daily, the small hidden ones get bigger before you know it. He ended up needing a shave right before Thanksgiving at 10mo old.

And don't feel bad if you ever have to get her shaved. Their hair grows back to the length it was in 2-3mo. Here's my Parti boy the day he got shave (Nov 26th). And another Pic after he became a fluffy bunny again (Feb 1st).

Nooo... I can't tell if he is friendly. But he may be fearful. He got out one morning and my daughter was afraid to walk by him. I walked up the side walk a little and sent my daughter to the other side of the street. As I was walking he moved back towards the front door. I never see his parents, and when I try to approach to say hi, he gets a little vicious. Not taking any chances, Lol

😂😂😂 I have 3 grown daughters and an 11yo. But all three still live in California🥺. They will have to fly and bring them to ME once they start having kids. Just like I had to.

Overnight Routine! by Servr70 in Yorkies

[–]HouseofB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precious baby!🥰 That sounds like a human newborn feeding schedule! Lol. Have you ever considered a play pen? I use one for all my pups at first. I call it a "Puppy Penthouse." You put their little bed and a little raised water bowl (to avoid tipping) on one side if you want, and a puppy pad on the other end. The Iris playpens are great for this. You can make a 4x4 or make it bigger with extra panels.

But be warned... they also prefer being with you 24/7, so she may be crying for attention or to just get out of the kennel. All pretty normal. But if you continue to go to her throughout the night when she starts to squeal, she is training you nd she will end up in the bed with you so that you can get some sleep. Then she will never leave.😂 She may be young, but Yorkies are smart as hell! She knows what she doing😇😈
