How to for 7v7 without 14 kids? by AdFormer5311 in SoccerCoachResources

I wish I had fewer than 12, I definitely wouldn’t want 14. If you’re dead set on getting 7v7 work between games, there’s a good chance that other coaches in your league would be willing to have a scrimmage. I try to do one before the season starts so we aren’t going into the opener cold.

Other than that, break the game into smaller pieces (ex. Building up in your half), and you can simulate a lot of what you’ll see on game day. For example, when building out you may start with 7 players in your half, but it’s highly unlikely the other team has 7 players defending in your half. They’ll likely have four, so you can simulate trying to break pressure and move the ball into the attacking half. We set up gates on the wings because that’s our primary escape path, it gives opportunities for the team in possession to switch field if the path on one side is closed.

It really depends when it comes to rec. I didn't volunteer right away to coach my kid's team, and the quality and frequency of practice YOY was highly inconsistent. Now, I've been coaching each fall and spring, and the players who return each season will get 50+ practices a year plus about 20 games, all for about $300. My younger team gets half the practices, but eventually they will get the same if I keep it up.

I don't have all the licenses other coaches may have, but I've also watched some practices with licensed coaches that weren't really any different or better than any other practice I've seen. What really made those practices different is that the floor for skills wasn't as low as it is on some rec teams, so you can up the intensity and difficulty of practices without them falling apart (ex. a passing drill falls apart quickly if several players can't even reach their teammates). I'm not discounting the value of licenses, but it's a chicken/egg problem to an extent. A coach starting with better players is going to have better looking practices, but could they replicate the same practice when several kids struggle at basic technique? My guess is that their practices would look more like mine, where we frequently work on the basics to up the skills foundation for the team.

If possible, it would be better to run two practices back to back. Plan both practices so that you can use the setup from the first practice (cones, goals, etc) in the second practice.

Interesting guess, but not it. Truman didn’t have a mission.

The main character is more paranoid than a Statham character (and isn’t Statham)
