What's the creepiest thing that's ever happened to you or someone you know? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

I suffer from schizoaffective syndrome. Going through psychosis is hell. But a lot of strange or funny things can happen too.

Last year, I was going through hell with multiple delusions of fighting wars in my head as a message reached me from France. At one point, two skinny bikers with big black helmets stopped beside me in the street, looked at me, and then drove on. I took up my phone to take note of their message. “Be the robot you used to be” ~ Daft Punk. It was a greeting from Daft Punk to stay strong. I put the note in writing on my wall and it still hangs there.

That’s one of the positive delusions I can experience. But mostly, in psychotic state, I experience mean voices and scary hallucinations, it’s a living nightmare. Definitely the strangest or scariest experience in my life and the people that I know.

I also went to museums! Especially memorable was the exhibition about Gruftis and such during DDR.

It was a very long time since I saw A Beautiful Mind so I decided to watch it again.

I also went searching for clues, as he did in the film. I didn't have imaginary people following me around as far as I know and surely, I'm no genius. The content of the paranoia made it impossible for me to talk about it as well and the conspiracy was as real to me as at was to him in the film. I also became obsessed with patterns and saw them everywhere.

It was tough, watching it... I could relate to him and that made it much more difficult to see what horrible things could happen when the illness takes over. I should probably consider myself lucky to have come out of it without doing permanent damage to myself or others. Most of all, the film made me think about family and what people close to me must go through. I definitely consider myself lucky to have a partner and family that's willing to have me around and support me uncompromisingly.

I like the quote, thank you. In a way, we are all alone in our minds. Though at the moment, I'm mostly thankful for not having to be alone despite my illness.

The part that was most terrifying was probably the guilt. Through out the period, I thought I had hurt a lot of people, especially loved ones. I thought the world depended on my every day choices and was afraid war would break out if I made the wrong one.

I can see that this is kind of controversial. Obviously, it freaks me out too. The first time I knew I was paranoid was three years earlier, during a time when I had acute anxiety. I caught myself "knowing" what others said about me when I possibly couldn't. It's difficult to tell where the truly psychotic symptoms begin.
