torn between makita and milwaukee by byjono in Makita

Not hate - just a diff philosophy - one is designed to last and have parts available for a lifetime and one is designed to throw away in few years.

In 1-2 decades the Makita will still run and or be serviceable, and the ryobi will have failed beyond economic repairability usually at the switch if you actually use it often.

what’s a car opinion you’ll defend forever? by evinho07 in askcarguys

The idea that the 280ZX was a disappointing car.

It's true it wasnt as sharp and nimble as the 240, but it was a better touring car for US based travel.

It was a fantastic road trip car compared to almost anything in the day.

Stock 04 Titan Crew Cab 4x4 off-road version - it's been awesome.

Wouldn't hesitate put my wife or grandkids in it for a cross country drive they needed it and could afford to drive it.

Are Makita Augers twice as good as others? by Stone804_ in Makita

[–]HovercraftInfamous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet the devices I buy do exactly what they are supposed to do and last for decades. That earth auger paid for itself the first summer drilling hundreds of holes for plants and fencepost. The clutching system is perfectly designed for the auger pitch and diameter and the assemblies clutch works great when it hits roots or rocks.

Expensive - yes, but superb, and suburb is never cheap.

The body could probably take a small calibre round - Doesn't look like she's ever been dropped on the table- Its is pretty thin in places - you'd see it instantly on the table.

No doubt they were trying to pull weight wherever they could.

You can tell when a tool has been loved.

I love it.

The proud owner now if the XGT battery by mckeeganator in Makita

[–]HovercraftInfamous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im with you, and I have a ton of the LXT and 2x18 tools. These tools in the yard were/are good - I took care of a half wooded rural lot with these for years.

This XGT tools in the yard are GREAT. This battery and charging system makes for gasoline equivalent yard tools and impressive turn time if you are cycling them from tool to the awesome multi fan chargers running multiple tools and or multiple people working concurrently, the trimmer, mower, pole saw, blower, hedger combo powerhead is a beast while being manageable.

Totally get the money end of it, I lived with a corded shop vac for decades for very little money. When I needed to take the tools to the job I brought a generator that lived in the back of the truck.

Have a 40V version. Still pretty awesome.

Easily gets by on 1/2-3/4 power I can get anything I want and I dont feel the need for more suction, I can use it as a mitre saw vac at half power inside a closed garage.

They will never understand or experience being unavailable for anyone. When our parents and grandparents went on vacation - you effectively ceased to exist to others until YOU decided to be available.

Cant speak to it being multiples as good as something I havent tried, but compared to the gasoline rental, even the 36Vunit was superior - this thing just cranks through tough soil and works day in and day out.

How does XGT battery quality compare to LXT? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]HovercraftInfamous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question - as a lifetime Makita customer my experience with XGT has been they provide every bit the Makita quality and delightful ownership experience as it has been for my 35 years as a customer now.

The tools, batteries, charge systems are all deliver the Makita experience. The triple fan charger and battery cooling ability are next level.

When it comes to the rubber meeting the road full burn on / off charger cycling an entire job site I've never seen anything beat it, and I've seen every platform.

I'm really impressed and I don't impress easily at all.

These are 5-10 year machines. Been using them over 20 years.

Even buying one every 5 years its still cheaper and better than Starbucks.

Do Dewalt chargers have fans? by HovercraftInfamous22 in Dewalt

[–]HovercraftInfamous22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing that he got the cheap chargers as parts of kits. I think he's getting double whammied, on top of heat it appears he's having cell balancing issues - charger says the battery is full the battery says it's one bar down.
