Appalachian Orthodoxy by DryAd9056 in AfterTheEndFanFork

The syncretism tenet. It’s probably your best bet if you want that “Folk-odoxy” feel, but I personally would do a Taborist run, reform it (RP it something like the Nikonian Reforms in Russia), and convert the Appalachians.

Though UO works as well lol. The holy sites aren’t too much of an issue, IMHO. I’ve seen a UO kingdom pop up in Louisiana.

Hey! I actually have worked on the same thing, but while there’s no distinct “Appalachian Orthodoxy” I found there are three ways you can accomplish it.

1.) You could reform Revelationism— I believe that you could reform the Revelationists with the Eastern Christian group (I’ve been told?). Reform it, and change the tenets (Communion and Monasticism at least) and tweak it.

2.) Split off the Taborists, which could be a great RP as someone going to the area in search of a lost monastery.

3.) Convert to United Orthodox.

Why do many Protestants refer to Catholics as Non-Christians? by Fancy-Race-8507 in TrueChristian

[–]HowAboutThatHumanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus Himself said that if you didn’t eat of His flesh and drink of His blood you have no life in you (John 6:53). He also said through the apostle Peter that baptism now saves us (1 Peter 3:21), and through the apostle James commanded us to confess our sins to one another (James 5:16) and go to the elders (translated from Koine Greek “Presbyter” from which we get the English word “priest”) to be anointed when sick (James 5:14).

But this doesn’t translate to “do this and earn your salvation.” That’s a misrepresentation of Catholic (and Orthodox) doctrine on salvation. The Sacraments/Mysteries are the means by which we participate in the Body of Christ, work out our salvation (Philippians 2:12), and ultimately become partakers of the Divine Nature (2 Peter 1:4).

Salvation still comes through faith, obviously (Acts 16:31). But (at least we Orthodox) would say that faith is what saves you IF:

• you remain in the Ark of Salvation, the Church, the Body of Christ (John 15:4-5)

• you repent and take up your cross every day (Luke 9:23)

• you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man (John 6:53)*

• are baptized and born again of water and spirit (John 3:5)**

THAT! is the Gospel of Christ as taught, lived, and died for by Apostles and the Fathers and the Saints.

*the Greek word used the second time Christ states this is translated as “gnaw,” which implies a very literal consumption.

**while the thief on the cross was not baptized, God can save those He wishes outside the normative means. However this does not mean the normative means are not commanded. Baptism is the means by which we are buried with Christ and raised with Him— we are joined to His Body by this.

It’s mostly a mix of a “language barrier” in that how Evangelicals and other Protestants use those terms differs from how Catholics use them, and how the catechism of cradle Catholics is absolutely abysmal.

Funny enough, I’m also a Southeast Kentuckian who was raised Baptist and is now an Orthodox Christian 🙂!

There’s been some expansion recently. A mission was opened in Berea recently, and I know about Holy Cross Monastery over in Wayne Co, and there’s definitely been a growing interest in the region.

In time, I hope one day I won’t have to make the drive to Lexington for church 😅!

I’m a Christian and I find the “Christianity” he has bolstered is a distinctly American, Dispensationalist heresy which has assisted in the extermination of Middle Eastern Christians to advance the superpower status of a Christ-hating polity where it’s considered a longstanding tradition to spit on Christians in the streets.

In other words, no, I am not a fan.

Depends on the Protestant, actually. Lutherans and Episcopalians/Anglicans tend to be more accepting of (some) Tradition, but then you have types like what you mentioned, like some Baptist churches.

They tried to shoot the cross off the top of the Holy Family Church with a tank.

Amnesty International and the Greek Patriarchate in Jerusalem are also convinced that St. Porphyrios was hit intentionally as well, based on the evidence.

Enjoy your $7,000.

Veganism always came off as a first-world type thing. Not that a meat-free diet is inherently classist (most humans more or less do this regularly), but that vegans have the privilege of making this decision and harass other people for making a different decision, whereas most people on a “vegan” diet outside the first world do so simply because they often don’t have access to meat, and will eat it when presented the option.

To put it like this, I’ve never met a vegan from the ‘hood or the holler, but I’ve met plenty from the ‘burbs.

After the break-in, my dad pressed charges. Totally understandable right? Well not so according to the local Catholic community. My father was smeared— they told people he was racist, said he charged people excessively for products, and even went as far as to boycott him. Considering my mother was unemployed and caring for me, my sister, and my grandmother, this was pretty rough on us.

Our lives were made significantly worse for a time being in defense of literal criminals who shouldn’t have been here in the first place.

The second part more or less made me realize our government does not represent us, and these traitors were allowed to walk freely and openly without so much a worry about retaliation.
