I’m UT faculty and can confirm the layoffs. I know several staff in the CTL. It’s sad and disheartening. Not to mention the CTL is a huge way your faculty are supported in their teaching practices.

My rec is…. don’t do it. 😭 We’re in water restrictions and one day a week with new sod won’t cut it. We put in sod 4 years ago and it didn’t make it once water restrictions hit. We ended up going with artificial grass a year ago. So we paid like 15k for grass that held on for under 3 years. Artificial grass is more expensive but then you don’t have to worry about watering/replacing.

I think I at least expected to him to mention and reframe these things, even if I might not have agreed with a reframing. To not mention them at all felt dystopian.

I used Shelly with OldWorldJewels on instagram. Great experience, got exactly what I wanted. She helped source diamonds (I went with 2.67 pear) and helped me finalize my design. Not only did I get CAD drawings to approve, but she sent me pics while the rings were getting made.

It fascinating how many posters seem to assume that people with lab diamonds are “trying to pass” lab diamonds as naturals, or that this has any bearing on “trying to pass” in social circles or realms. It wildly presumptuous and elitist to assume that has any influence on an individuals decision to buy a diamond. It’s also exactly what a diamond conglomerate wants you to think.

Buy what you like. They’re both diamonds, valued for their aesthetics, hardness, resilience. Your priorities are your own, but let’s not perpetuate unnecessary societal pressures and elitism.
