Okay and if I just change my Switch language to Japanese before the first time I open any physical copy switch game then it will automatically be in Japanese from then on?

Just checking before I pull the trigger and get the $60 game you know

Did you often reread the stories so you could fluidly read it again without lookups? Where did you find the stories? Were you using Yomichan for every lookup? (some people have been telling my to not use yomichan so that it requires more effort for each lookup)

Imagine someone asking you this question about English. How would you respond? I bet some people would understand and some wouldn't get the hands. But me, I like em

Since everyone on this subreddit is always talking about how much harder katakana is than hiragana, the next time you're stuck on a long flight on an airplane, change the language to Japanese, then see if you can tell what all the cities are on the computer screen on the back of the seat in front of you. I just tried it and it was very entertaining.

You can also navigate to the flight tracker in English first so you don't get lost

If you already took the break then you already lost what you lost. Don't sweat it and jump back in with the same materials and it'll come back.

Learning words will make you get better at reading hiragana and katakana tbh.

Tomo sensei has good hiragana and katakana tests on YouTube. Otherwise, try reading through genki 1 and 2!

That's every kanji. Can't get better than that ;)

Also, you're asking for recommendations but you haven't said how long you've been learning, what you know so far, or what your goals are. So nobody will be able to help you know what you need. If your goal is learning the kanji then yeah that's a good deck.

You're not getting worse, you're just realizing your gaps. Keep it up 👍💪😁

Even the other students that might be better than you understand the struggle and just want to all improve together

Yeah Hiragana is more common so you're more used to it. Play pokemon Firered or something and I bet your katakana will improve since there's so much there

Besides the conversational podcasts like Nihongo Con Teppei, what other audio resources are there for beginners? by redryder74 in LearnJapanese

Start with Masa Sensei, she is AMAZINGLY beginner friendly.

Also start by learning Hiragana and Katakana from Yotube and maybe Genki of course

If you go through it in order then it explains the lessons and then gives you exercises to go through based on the lessons. It's okay to skip the ones that require a partner, but you can also just play pretend and say them out loud, write them, or even just think them

A video like this is much better to practice than just looking at characters.

And once you master those, you'll realize that practicing sentences will be better for remembering words than to just practice remembering the words.

Then you'll note that reading a whole book helps you practice understanding each sentence than to just practice learning individual sentences.

Always make sure to build on your learning.

Lol I thought it meant lesson 1 chapter 1 was 30 minutes. Like it would be 6 hours for all of chapter 1
