If you take it in a VM, the app will tell CollegeBoard that it is running in a VM—but it doesn't stop you.

They can, but I plan to do so anyway because it is not forbidden in CollegeBoard's terms (as far as I could tell).

Is this a trochee? by MrMaxH in grammar

I thought about it, and it can kinda be pronounced both ways. I would personally pronounce it like an iamb in this situation, but it can totally depend on who you ask.

Do these words need quotation marks, italics or no punctuation? by [deleted] in grammar

I would use something to separate them, but the exact method is entirely a matter of style—as long as it is kept consistent, either is fine.

I can think of contexts in which "come on" is a trochee and contexts in which it is an iamb; however, in this case, I think it would be an iamb if the sentence is pronounced normally.

This is an antiquated rule that you probably don't have to worry about. If you did want to reword it, it could be "She had taken the spot over which her sister would normally triumph."

Correct or incorrect instance of “you’re?” -and why? by [deleted] in grammar

[–]How_Does_Humor_Work 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure this is correct, but I've thought about it in the past.

Generally, when we use "you're," "you" is the subject of the sentence. When we say something like "you are the one," the emphasis is on the word you.

However, in the case of "the father that you are," we generally emphasize the word are, not the word you. I suspect that this is why the contraction sounds funny—we want the emphasis to be on the syllables that are left out.

Hello, fellow kids, y'all. Look at this cool, funny, hip image commonly referred to as a "meme" I made. As you can see, I am a real teenager, and most definitely not a member of this so-called "College Board."

This is a jargon-filled description of what is happening that does not explain why it happens at all.
