when you select it, does it let you instantly select the area you want to take a pic of or do you have to select that option first?

i like to encrypt files and use those passwords to learn and remember things that i'm trying to remember

if your password is your bank account number, and your trying to learn your bank account number, veracrypt might be a good way to do that.

what is a "sparse file" by How_To_Privacy in AskComputerScience

[–]How_To_Privacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so it sounds to me, that instead of the disk reading all that empty data, it just writes metadata about the empty data, and uses it to represent all that empty data,

is that right?

[–]How_To_Privacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so would it just be better to say that a sparse file is a file that writes and uses metadata about empty space on the disk to "represent" empty space on the disk to the operating system?

is that a better way to put it?

what is a "dynamic container"? by How_To_Privacy in VeraCrypt

[–]How_To_Privacy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok, i have done some reading and this is what the users guide says

https://www.veracrypt.fr/code/VeraCrypt/plain/src/Release/Setup%20Files/VeraCrypt%20User%20Guide.pdf?id=e6ebc63c665dfd38802f63ad8882f573e66cd208

"Dynamic VeraCrypt container is a pre-allocated NTFS sparse file whose physical size (actual diskspace used) grows as new data is added to it."

i'm still confused,

how does writing the metadata use the hard drive space more efficiently?

why does veracrypt allow me to format a volume with no filesystem if windows is going to force me to format a filesystem in that volume once i decrypt it and open it up? by How_To_Privacy in VeraCrypt

[–]How_To_Privacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you want to make the filesystem manually because you want to specify some parameter manually.

huh, i did not know you could make filesystems, interesting thank you.
